Dinner & games in Montmorency. Anyone keen?

We've had a couple of these dinner and game nights in a Montmorency now and they've been a huge amount of fun!

This *Sunday* we're having a taco themed potluck and would love to have you along if you're keen to hang out in real life, maybe meet some new people and have a few laughs.

There will be a selection of board / card games to play (not required) and a tasty meal.

It's potluck which means everyone is expected to bring something along. This will be somewhat coordinated so it's not all just guacamole and no tacos.

There is a max capacity for the venue so I'm handling RSVPs via humanitix (free) - https://events.humanitix.com/lets-eat-tacos

Backroom chatter in Discord - https://discord.gg/E6ExMhBCv

Any questions, feel free to ask.

Pic is from the last event.

Businesses still charging fuel surcharge taking the piss?

Need to book in a service for my heating and this message comes up on their site.

Looking around at petrol prices at the moment this feels like a scam surcharge to me at this point.

Particularly considering there is already a $250+ callout charge.

Another social games + dinner on this Sunday for anyone keen (Montmorency)

Hey everyone!

After the successful Meal on Monday a few weeks back, the next event is happening this Sunday, henceforth known as Souper Sunday.

It will be a potluck, with several different soups to choose from + board/card games before and after dinner.

In Montmorency.

No cost to attend and a good chance to meet a bunch of friendly redditors.

Spots are limited though as it's at a Neighbourhood House so please RSVP if you are coming along.

Would love to have another great gathering!

And to find out about any future events it's worth joining the Discord where they are announced a little earlier https://discord.gg/mhDvxSCHe

Follow up: our meal and games night was a heap of fun!

Last week I created a post about hosting a meal for Redditors.

I had so much interest it was really lovely to see.

I even had someone from ABC Radio get in touch about the event and got a chance to talk on air with them about it.

In many ways a very simple idea but clearly people are looking for connection like this .

Well last night I had everyone over at the Wellington St Neighbourhood house in Montmorency and it really was a blast.

Based on how well it went, I think you can expect more in the future.

If you can't wait for that to happen, you can also

* Look up your local neighbourhood house / library as they often have events like community lunches or similar that can be fun to go along to.

* See if you can get one up and running yourself! Neighbourhood houses / libraries often have really good spaces for stuff like this and aren't expensive to hire. If you decide to, feel free to get in touch and I'm happy to chat about what worked and didn't work for this first evening. Yeah it's a bit of a leap of faith, but sometimes it's just worth taking a chance!

That's all from me for now - catch you later lovely people.

oh and the discord I set up last week if you want to be sure not to miss future ones : https://discord.gg/Jzywqr6ya

Who's up for a meal?

Fuck it, I'm going to put this out there.

I have this idea. We get together, cook a giant pot of Bolognese or soup. We hang out over a meal and play some boardgames or cards and just socialise for a bit. I'm seeing all these people strapped for cash, skipping meals, being lonely at home etc and to be honest I get pretty bored myself at home so figure - what the heck, maybe we can try something.

I can organise a space (not my home) + provide all the ingredients for the meal. Probably a max capacity of 20 people or so.

In Montmorency.

Anyone interested? At the very least you'd get a nice (imo) meal out of it!

Update--
Wow, I really appreciate the enthusiasm everyone! I'll try set a date this evening (midweek probably - I'm thinking next week to allow a little time for planning at least) and get some kind of RSVP system set up. I'll try to send private messages to those who answered first to be fair. Then open it up tomorrow if there's still spots. And hey, if it works as well as I hope it does, I can always organise another one - no need to feel like you missed out.

Update 2 --
I've set the event for next Monday. Since there are so many responses and it's not really a very big space, I'll start by sending direct messages to those of you who answered first. If you'd like to be kept in touch (about free spots or future meals), Reddit is not the easiest way to do that, so I've set up a discord server where I can let everyone know about what's coming: https://discord.gg/XabnVD22 Please join and say hi.

Update 3 --
Opening up the booking page now to fill the remaining spots:
