Re root canal or extraction??

I had a root canal performed by my dentist in Dec 2024, however routines scans have shown there is still a little bit of infection, my dentist has said it could rear its head at anytime so he recommends another root canal but with a specialist. During this time the tooth has chipped away at two locations leaving two cavities. I’m concerned the tooth is very brittle and may not last long even with a root canal. The tooth is my lower first molar. Just want to gauge peoples opinions and experiences? Thanks in advance
