Why did Karmelo Anthony’s mother, after the guilty verdict, share with the jury that Karmelo was sorry for what he did?
Was this a mistake by Anthony’s defense?
If someone kills someone when their life is in danger, I think any reasonable person would understand, if the killers life was truly endangered based on evidence, the killer would have a right to self defense. People would understand that their life was in danger, and that killing the attacker was a reasonable thing to do. There would be nothing to be sorry for. Your life was on the line. Any reasonable person would understand that if your life is GENUINELY at risk, you should unalive the person that could take your life.
In the Karmelo Anthony case, the defense maintained that the stabbing was in self defense throughout the trial. After the verdict was read, Karmelo Anthony’s mom came up to tell the jury how sorry Karmelo was for the stabbing.
Does this not work against the defense/Karmelo? If you went to trial for this because you thought it was self defense, you probably shouldn’t apologize, right? Since most reasonable people would recognize that a self defense killing is nothing to be sorry for? Why would you apologize for something if you feel, deep in your heart, that your side did nothing wrong?
I know you could say “well she was trying to earn sympathy from the jury”, but honestly, if I’m on that jury, I would take that as an insult to my intelligence. If you felt like he was innocent and did nothing wrong, tell the jury that! While also showing the upmost sympathy for the metcalf family. Why flip-flop after the verdict was read, and say that he was in the wrong and he feels sorrow now? After maintaining that he did nothing wrong?
Was this a mistake by the defense? Or am I crazy ?
