H.Jayer Echezeaux 1992

I dont think any words will do this justice. A small pour shared by a kind friend. Im not quite sure how to describe the palate. Floral, forest floor, oriental spice and liquorice on the nose. A beautiful aged nose though i generally prefer younger fresher burg aroma especially with stems. The palate however got me speechless. The power, concentration and weight is well integrated with the pronounced yet silky tannins. The best way i can describe this is rustic yet extremely pretty at the same time. 30+ years of age from a rather challenging vintage but showed no signs of displeasure. Was told that this is one of the proper showing of what Jayer is and i can definitely see why it’s so sought after. If you think i am biased because of the label, my wife who doesnt really know the prices on this, said this was her fav of their night among DRC La Tache 02 and RSV 05. For someone who don’t usually adore aged wines, this is spectacular. Prob my one and only H.jayer in my life but i can die happy

3 shades of vosne

🌹 3 Shades of Vosne

🍷 2021 Domaine Bizot Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Elise Fermouche - Les Treux in Echezeaux. 371 btls. Immediate perfume of elegant floral and whole bunch aroma. The spicy smoky reduction from new oak is pronounced from pop and pour. Lots of red fruits with silky tannins, while being quite viscous. The most feminine of these trio. Probably due to the vintage or young age, the palate doesn’t seem to match the beautiful nose, but definitely a step up from his ‘21 village. Always a treat with Bizot ❤️

🍷 2017 Arnoux Lachaux Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Suchots - My first Suchot from Lachaux. While everyone seems to chase his new label from 2018, imo 2017 is the first proper transitional vintage that showcased Charles Lachaux’s vision in both the vineyard and cellar work (took over in 2015). Some commented natty which i assume it’s from the typical herbal whole cluster aroma commonly found in newer Lachaux. Hint of oak that’s not intrusive, the silky red fruits with refined tannins on the palate stood out. Prob the most approachable Lachaux compared to the 18-19-20 i had (including village). Another good showing in the vosne flight!

🍷 2014 Domaine Prieuré Roch Vosne Romanee Le Clos Goillotte Monopole- Having had my first Goillotte (‘21) pretty recently, always nice to try another vintage! ‘21 was much more floral, while this ‘14 showed more smoky, green stems and espresso-ish. If the Bizot nose is pretty, Lachaux is charming, this is rather showy. The most explosive nose of the three (Bizot not far behind). The palate does lack a little depth compared to the other two, but still carried good concentration for a village. Would recommend pop and pour and drink up fast as the acidity of the vintage did show after 2 hours.
