Despite how it ended, I think he was grateful to have had her at all. The alternative was never knowing her, and he wouldn’t have traded a second of it even knowing where it led.

Shinobu is commonly regarded as his closest ally, and their bond was something special even among the Hashira. Nobody else had a dynamic quite like theirs. There was so much between them, all of it left to sit just under the surface, and the fact that it never got the chance to become what it could have been is the best kind of literary hurt. It’s painful to read and analyze as someone empathetic, but it's written so well that I keep coming back to it! Gotouge outdid themselves with this bond!
