I was looking at the Bottleneck calendar and noticed the Slumbering Sun / Insomniac show on the 12th. I haven't seen much talk about it yet, but the lineup looks solid for anyone into the heavier doom/sludge side of the scene. Is anyone else planning on heading down, or has anyone caught these bands live recently? I'm trying to see what the energy is usually like for these coalition shows

I just saw toms dogs is doin the annual hot dog eatin contest at the replay tonight at 6. feels like the perfect sunday afternoon vibe. anyone else plannin on catchin the chaos or tryin to enter?? tryin to see if the patio is gonna be packed?

I was looking at the calendar for next month and noticed some heavy sets coming up, like Toxic Authority on July 1st and Sparta later in the month. It seems like the energy at the venue has been great lately. Does anyone have recommendations for which of the smaller July shows are actually worth catching for the best pit/crowd energy? I am trying to plan my schedule and would appreciate any insight from the regulars

I have been looking for some new inclusive spaces to spend time in lately. I know Northside Social and the Replay patio are staples, but I am curious if there are any other hidden gems or even coffee shops where the community usually gathers. I would love to hear where everyone feels most at home these days!

What is John Brown underground next to? Also has anybody tried tried the frozen soy boy down at John Brown underground also, is it worth the $13 that it cost to get it? Please let me know if you have tried this or not. I have never been to John Brown underground since I’ve lived in Lawrence the last 18 years. I just want to know your thoughts on this bar?

These are already premade tie-dye shirts, and I cannot find the post anywhere on Facebook so I thought that I would try here to see if anybody knows anything about this event. I’ve been away from the local heavy scene for a minute and I’m trying to get back into it. I’m mostly into metalcore and crunkcore (Magdalene Rose, etc) but I’m not sure which venues are actually hosting those vibes lately. Is it still mostly the Bottleneck or are there house shows I’m missing? Would love some recommendations on where the high-energy crowds actually hang out so I don't end up at a chill indie set by mistake

I am planning on catching a few of the outdoor screenings for the Free State Festival this week. I haven't been in a couple of years and I am wondering what the setup is like now. Do people still bring their own lawn chairs and blankets, or is it more structured? Also, how early do I actually need to get there to find a decent spot? I’d love to hear any tips from festival regulars.

I feel like I am hitting every single red light between Iowa and Louisiana lately. It used to be that if you timed it right, you could catch a green wave, but now it feels completely random. Did the city change the sensor timing recently, or is the Monday morning rush just finally breaking my spirit? I would love to know if anyone else has noticed this or if I am just losing it.

I am tired of the corporate vibe at Hy-Vee and Dillons. Checkers on 23rd Street is the only place that still feels like actual Lawrence. The prices are better, the local selection is actually local, and it doesn't feel like a sterile warehouse. Does anyone else actually prefer the 'messy' vibe of a local shop, or am I just stuck in the past?

I was just looking at the schedule for the Free State Festival at the Arts Center. It looks like they have some really interesting films and speakers lined up for this month. Has anyone attended in previous years, or are there any specific events this year that are considered 'must-see'?

I have been trying to navigate the construction near Iowa Street this week and noticed some of the lane closures have shifted. Does anyone know if they are still on schedule to finish this phase by mid-month, or should we expect more delays through the weekend? The traffic during rush hour has been particularly difficult lately?

I am planning on heading to The Bottleneck tonight for the show. Doors are at 7:00 PM and the music starts at 8:00 PM, but I am trying to figure out the exact set times for the openers. Does anyone know if From This Day Forward is on first? Also, how early should I get there to grab a good spot near the soundboard?

I usually end up at Milton's or 1900 Barker, but I am looking for a spot that is relatively quiet and has good seating. I was reading about the history of DIY venues in Lawrence and saw some crazy stories about The Outhouse from back in the day. It seems like those off-the-radar spots were the heart of the scene. Does anyone here have stories from there, or know of any current house venues like The Tollbooth that are still active? I am interested in finding where the more experimental or heavy sets are happening these days

I recently discovered this band and was surprised to see they are opening for Brokencyde and From this day forward at The Bottleneck this Monday, June 15. Their style is a very interesting blend of metalcore and crunkcore. I am curious if anyone else in the Lawrence music community has seen them live or is planning to attend the show. It seems like it will be a high-energy set for a Monday night!
