Is Desire Related to Aversion ?

Is desire somehow connected with aversion ? So for example, when we are met with an object; we oppose it, we are averse to it; But in order for that aversion to arise, we had to want things to be different than what they actually are.

Is meditation necessary ?

How important is meditation to become liberated ? I know that developing samadhi is important, but can't we naturally develop it by being present, and then the mind naturally turns to the 3 doors and so on ?

Basically, I'm not so sure how important intentional practice actually is.
