What are we reading in October? 👻📖
This year I won't be able to squeeze in a spooky book for October. I simply have too much else to read for the fall semester. I'm behind where I wanted to be, so I have no time for fun indulgences.
Let me live vicariously through you! What terrifying tales are you reading?
Last year I read Frankenstein. If I had time rn I would have loved to re-read some of The Vampire Chronicles. Alas, maybe next year.
Thank you God for my mother's failed tubal ligation.
I always wanted a brother and then I got one. I am the first of four and he's my most well matched sibling in spite of a 10ish year age gap. It was annoying to pseudo raise him, but I'd do it all again.
In general, I pitty all of you without siblings. Must suck fr. He drives me cuckoo, but I can't imagine getting thru this family/ world at large without him.
Five days until August.
If you are in the Southern Hemisphere, my condolences on your seasonal affective symptoms. Relax, fair princess, spring is coming.
If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, the window for reinventing yourself over the summer is rapidly closing.
What's actually changed?
What are you avoiding?
What drastic measure are you taking to address #2?

Erythema ab igne bla bla bla.
In spite of this, many blessings upon the inventor of the heating pad! 🔥
My three step plan for how I am going to slow down this summer:
1..... Return to obsolete technologies:
- Keep my laptop docked at my apartment to reignite the feeling of a desktop computer being the only way to use the internet.
- Move my SIM card from my S23 to a flip phone, I'm thinking something really gaudy so I can draw eyes to my digital disdain.
- Use my digicam again so memories can be captured without filters.
- Use my old walkman mp3 player to disengage from the algorithmic sludge that is spotify.
- Print maps from mapquest instead of GPS.
2.....Straight up avoid modern technology:
- Pre-print all the assignments I need to pass out for the summer semester so I have fewer reasons to be on my computer.
- Invest in the film camera I found and accept that not every moment needs immediate review.
- Refuse to engage with a QR code. If a restaurant only has a digital menu the waitstaff will have to rehash the menu to me verbally.
- I will wear a watch again because checking the time should not be a slippery slope into doom scrolling.
- Use cookbooks and magazines; there's no need for internet inspo.
- Rely on an alarm clock instead of phone alarms.
3......Engage my physical being in activities:
- Go on stupid little runs because nothing dilates time like suffering.
- Use my bike again: I have already rechained it, I just need a lil milk crate to put on the back rack.
- Burden myself with the weight of real books instead of an e-reader.
- Record some new playlists on cassettes.
- Handwriting letters and cards instead of text.
Things I have already done:
- I have never gotten sucked into the digital calendar, so I will continue to use my paper planner.
- I drive a '99 with a cassette deck.
Things I am not going to try:
- Keeping track of stocks only by newspaper and then calling my brokerage with trades.
- Using cash only, rn whenever I have cash in hand I hide it in my mattress.
