Hey everyone! This is the first project I'm sharing here — and actually my first Reddit
post. I'm new to the community, so I'd appreciate your patience. If there's something I
could do better, I'm open to feedback.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia, and long stretches of text have always been difficult for me
to process. Coding agents often return very long answers, especially when I'm working
through a big PR or a complicated problem. I wanted a way to listen to those answers on my
NixOS machine instead of relying only on reading them.
I'm also studying English. I used to open Claude's web app to hear spoken English and
practice my listening skills, but I wanted to do that while working in my local terminal
too.
So I built SpeakHarness. It follows local sessions from OMP, Pi, Codex and Claude Code and
reads their answers aloud. It uses local Kokoro voices for English and Piper for Brazilian
Portuguese. It also tries to make Markdown easier to listen to — for example, it doesn't
recite code blocks character by character. There's a browser dashboard, a terminal reader,
and an optional OMP extension that speaks final replies automatically.
I've tested it on NixOS x86_64. ARM and macOS haven't been tested yet. Setup downloads the
voice models once; the transcripts aren't sent to a cloud TTS service.

I built this with AI coding assistance. It's still an early release, and I'd really value
feedback — especially from anyone who tries the installation or has ideas for making the
listening experience more useful
