Cat with Monocle - Seth Hay - 4.5 / 5
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a gorgeous HD-2D action RPG that blends compelling time-travel storytelling, satisfying combat, and rewarding exploration. Packed with secrets, memorable adventures, a stunning world to discover, and of course cat collecting. It’s a journey well worth exploring, making it meowtastic.
Console Creatures - Matt Sowinski - 7 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales could've been the next big action RPG, but instead, it feels like a lesser version of a game you've played before.
Cubed3 - Neil Flynn - 9 / 10
>Make no mistake, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a beautiful game top to bottom. Combat is phenomenally varied, fluid and rewarding, alongside customisable perks and buffs for Elliot’s extensive arsenal of weapons. The world map is impressive to an extent, but there is a bit too much repetition across the various time periods, including having the same enemies. Nonetheless, puzzles, exploration and the wealth of combat options make this a must play for action RPG fans, and should certainly scratch the itch for those looking for a combination of HD-2D and old-school top-down Zelda games.
DayOne - Jesse Norris - 8 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an uneven, but ultimately satisfying title. An incredible soundtrack, solid gameplay, and, at least for me, fantastic visuals help carry it — despite the grind needed for its true conclusion.
Eurogamer.pt - Bruno Galvão - Portuguese - 4 / 5
>Elliot's Adventure is a delightful RPG that perfectly captures the charm of the '90s classics. The simplicity of the experience makes it much more fun than you'd expect; the story is interesting and the soundtrack is captivating.

>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a game that aims to be simple and accessible, yet fun at the same time. The game doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel and offers a solid experience. >As the studio’s first foray into using HD-2D art direction in an action RPG, the game is a big hit for Team Asano. By stepping completely outside their comfort zone, the team demonstrates its creative potential and willingness to experiment more and more, which is very positive for Square Enix.
Gameliner - Simon Verbeke - Dutch - 4 / 5
>With The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, Square Enix has once again delivered a compelling JRPG. This incredibly charming HD-2D time-travel adventure may not be a complete revolution for the genre, but it’s a quintessentially cozy JRPG adventure with all the hallmarks of the genre.
Gamer Guides - Lowell Bell - 75 / 100
>Of all of Square Enix’s HD-2D games, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is my least favorite – but I don’t think that makes it a bad game. Some fun boss battles, great music, and satisfying movement throughout four beautiful eras just barely make up for how little depth there is to the story, combat, and especially the puzzles/exploration.
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a solid Zelda like adventure, provided you are willing to overlook its story and a few issues with narrative logic. It captures the polished feel and straightforward fun often associated with Nintendo games, while its moderately challenging puzzles provide a welcome change of pace throughout the journey. At the same time, there is no single aspect where it truly stands above the competition or leaves a lasting impression.
Gaming Boulevard - Toon Borremans - 8.5 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is Team Asano’s take on the action RPG genre. Their signature 2.5D art style brings this vibrant world to life. This is especially clear in the attention to detail in both the art and the vocal performances. Although the combat is button-mashy, it feels responsive and fun. This is especially true after augmenting your weapons with Magicite. Dungeons are quick and snappy, offering loot without becoming stale, and exploring off the beaten track is highly rewarding. However, the talkative companions and the reuse of enemies for long parts of the game sometimes hinder immersion. The story may lack depth, but the gameplay always keeps me coming back for more. Is there a better feeling than the satisfaction you get from finding a new artefact in the depths of an ancient cave?
Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Toyad - 90 / 100
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is good comfort food top-down adventuring, bolstered by its stellar presentation and simple-to-play-yet-challenging-to -master gameplay. While the story does go through some predictable routes at the start, and one of its characters earning the dubious award for "most chatty companion" even with that dialed down in the in-game options, this HD-2D jaunt has layers worth uncovering and may just surprise you.
Loot Level Chill - Lyle Pendle - 9 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a fantastic, fleshed out experience, with wonderful combat and absolutely jaw dropping visuals.
Manual dos Games - Luiz Henrique Silva - Portuguese - 9 / 10
>Bringing together a captivating story filled with charismatic characters, a richly detailed world that begs to be explored, and a satisfying gameplay loop that rewards the player's curiosity and sense of adventure, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales takes the HD-2D format to new heights, definitively proving that the formula can go far beyond turn-based RPGs.
MondoXbox - Valerio Tosetti - Italian - 8.5 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a classic, accessible, and highly enjoyable action RPG that pleases players with its pacing rather than with revolutionary mechanics. Despite some repetitive elements across its eras and some forgettable characters, its relaxed loop, outstanding art direction, and evocative soundtrack make for a solid and engaging, nostalgia-filled 16-bit era adventure.
NintendoBoy - Vinicius Madeira - Portuguese - 9 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is the ideal game for those seeking an experience that doesn't stray too far from the action-adventure standard, but also expands upon it! Its campaign, with approximately 30 hours to complete, is certainly the right length, making it a perfect game for portable play or TV viewing.
NintendoWorldReport - Jordan Rudek - 8 / 10
>The inspirations are clear, but so too is the understanding of what makes for enjoyable minute-to-minute gameplay. The longer you play, the more the cracks begin to show, but the story manages to push you forward and the hidden plots beneath it make going out of your way an oft fulfilling detour. The red mage-looking Elliot has made a fan out of me, and if Link ever wants to take a break from stopping Ganon, Square Enix has a capable backup waiting in the wings.
One More Game - Ricki Buzon - 9 / 10
>There’s no denying that The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales borrows heavily from The Legend of Zelda, particularly classics like A Link to the Past. Yet rather than being a drawback, this foundation serves as a proven blueprint, one that Square Enix builds upon with its own creative flourishes to deliver a memorable experience in its own right. > >In many ways, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales feels like a literal link to the past, echoing the pixel‑and‑sprite era of Square Enix before the studio’s leap into modern visual spectacles. It’s a game that invites both nostalgia and discovery, offering retro‑styled fun that can even be shared with a friend through cooperative play.
PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 90 / 100
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an excellent action RPG that clearly demonstrates its influences, but uses them to deliver a unique game. It shines in its combat, exploration, and a good story that makes every hour worthwhile.
>Its engaging combat, rewarding exploration, clever customization systems, and gorgeous visual presentation combine to create one of Square Enix’s strongest action-adventure games in recent years. The story may be predictable, and the enemy variety is rather lacking, but neither issue detracts from an experience that consistently rewards exploration.
Region Free - Joonatan Itkonen - 4 / 5
>The Adventures of Elliot is an endearing and accessible game for all ages, and a shining example that Square Enix hasn't lost their magic touch for crafting adventures that evoke the spirit of childhood wonder.
República DG - Ruancarlo Silva - Portuguese - 9.2 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is yet another major success from Square Enix. The game lives up to the publisher’s tremendous legacy, while reviving the core pillars that established the company as one of the leading names in the industry.
Switchaboo - Alex Harding - 7 / 10
>I can look back on The Adventures of Elliot: The Millenium Tales fondly, but it's ultimately unmemorable in many aspects. Its theme of tribalism is a well-fitting one, especially in the current sociopolitical climate, but outside of that, most of it just made me unwillingly compare it to The Legend of Zelda games and it very rarely beat them in most aspects. I was going to go with an 8, but as I continued to think back on it in the days leading up to its launch, I found myself becoming less and less fond of my playtime. But it's still a fun game and the HD-2D art style pops incredibly well, so there's that.
The Nerd Stash - Julio La Pine - 8.5 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales brings solid action-adventure foundations to the gorgeous HD-2D style, which has now reached its pinnacle. While the story and characters feel flat at times, it is an excellent first entry to what I hope becomes a formula that Square Enix uses more often.
TheSixthAxis - Nic Bunce - 9 / 10
>Every once in a while there's a game where I put off completing my review because I'm busy trying to grab the Platinum trophy. The Adventures of Elliot is one of those games. I found entire evenings and weekends disappearing, and even when repetition threatened to set in, I found new ways to shake up the game. Look past the odd pacing foible and this is an excellent action adventure to sink into.
Uagna - Lorenzo Bologna - Italian - 8 / 10
>The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a solid and captivating action RPG, combining the charm of 2D HD with an adventure structure clearly inspired by the classic Legend of Zelda games. The exploration works, the bosses are well-crafted, and the relationship between Elliot and Faie gives the journey personality. The experience is held back by a certain repetitiveness related to time travel, uninspired side quests, and inconsistent inventory management. However, it remains an enjoyable, well-crafted adventure, recommended for fans of classic action RPGs.

>Call of the Elder Gods is a successful sequel, particularly when judged on the strength of its world-building, the quality of its puzzles and the solidity of its authorial identity. It isn’t perfect: the attempt to expand on the formula established in Call of the Sea results in a slight loss of cohesion, the overall impact may feel a little less immediate than its predecessor, and the narrative – though equally compelling – ultimately culminates in a disappointing and forgettable twist. Nevertheless, the game excels in other areas, thanks to the richness of its environments (which help recreate that Indiana Jones atmosphere), a gradual and well-balanced difficulty curve that sees the puzzles become progressively more complex, and a pair of likeable protagonists. The overall impression is, ultimately, that of a first-class adventure that is absolutely worth experiencing, and thanks to a generous hint system, Call of the Elder Gods is a game that everyone will be able to enjoy.

>Out of the Blue has delivered another feast for the eyes and ears in a fun, chill puzzle game that still finds ways to balance the horrors of the beyond with the horrors of our own existence.
CGMagazine - Jordan Biordi - 7 / 10

>Elder Gods is crammed with gorgeous set pieces, clever puzzles, and engrossing writing.
Console Creatures - Bobby Pashalidis - 8 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods delivers a worldwide adventure with a tinge of mystery, crafting an experience which exceeds its predecessor. Aside from some pacing issues, the puzzles, the characters, and the story are elegantly pieced together. I came away satisfied by all accounts. The attention to detail, the excellent puzzles, and strong performances elevate this Lovecraftian adventure.
DayOne - Jon Clarke - 7.5 / 10
>I went into Call of the Elder Gods with a little trepidation, because I’ve played quite a few narratively focused puzzle games of late, and I feared I was a little burnt out. Thankfully, it’s a worthy sequel. Call of the Elder Gods is filled with some genuinely well-designed brain teasers, and a plot that eventually had me hooked, further fuelling my desire to solve the central mystery. If you’re looking for a new puzzle game to challenge you mind, this is a call you’ll want to take.
Digital Chumps - Ben Sheene - 8 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods pulls from Lovecraftian mythos to create a pulpy puzzler that works to build off of 2020's Call of the Sea. However, its intense head-scratchers with complex solutions can often clash with the pace of a relatively short adventure.
DualShockers - Maddie Fisher - 10 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a beautiful, haunting and sometimes funny first-person puzzle game. It has a strong focus on its world and characters, with fabulous writing and lovely voice acting. The puzzles are clever, offering a mix of subtle and more grandiose brain scramblers. If you're a fan of cosmic horror or the Lovecraft mythos, Call of the Elder Gods is going to be a game you'll want to dive into immediately. This is one of the most outstanding games of the year so far, and it's not one you're going to want to miss.
EntreMandos - Saúl Blanco - Spanish - 7.5 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods builds upon the foundations of Call of the Sea with clever puzzles, atmospheric storytelling and a striking cartoon-inspired art style. Its Lovecraftian mystery and satisfying puzzle design make it a compelling adventure from start to finish.
GameBlast - Victor Vitório - Portuguese - 8 / 10
>With equal emphasis on narrative and sequences of puzzles, Call of the Elder Gods makes good use of the Lovecraftian legacy, reinterpreting it with a presentation that dispenses with horror and prefers the mystery of adventure. It's a game that seeks to be enjoyable, without the pressure of fear, time constraints, or overly complex puzzles, being challenging only to the extent that it makes us think a little, even if its tools and talkative characters can be overly didactic.
GameMAG - Вадим Съедин - Russian - 7 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a perfectly worthy sequel to Call of the Sea, in which the authors shifted the focus toward varied and moderately challenging puzzles. The story also turned out to be quite engaging, though for some reason the authors didn't quite polish a number of their ideas, which somewhat mars the overall impression.
Gamer Social Club - Vikki McGowan - 7.5 / 10
>I enjoyed my 5 hour playthrough of Call of the Elder Gods. The puzzles, environments, and voice acting were all fantastic and that’s all you really need for a fun weekend chomp of a title. However, the move from one island to jet setting across the globe in those five hours didn’t do the pacing of the story any favours. There’s a lot going on, and the game rattles through some of it’s reveals at a fair clip, losing a lot of the intrigue that made the first game so compelling. When it comes to facing the Cosmic Entities at the end of the world; I think I’d have preferred a little less movie conspiracy, and a little more actual mystery.
Hobby Consolas - Alberto Lloret - Spanish - 82 / 100
>Out of the Blue repeats its formula and delivers a great puzzle adventure that knows exactly what it's doing and is aimed at a very specific audience.
IGN - Alessandro Fillari - 8 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a first-person adventure that wonderfully captures an otherworldly tone and the sense of mystery of its predecessor, and it nails the emotional core while giving its characters and puzzle design time to shine.
IGN Italy - Alessandra Borgonovo - Italian - 8 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a mature and highly rewarding evolution of the foundation laid by Call of the Sea. Out of the Blue Games delivers a vibrant, puzzle-driven adventure that explores Lovecraftian lore through a surprisingly intimate and poetic lens. While the dual-protagonist mechanics feel somewhat underutilized and a few puzzles stumble in execution, the excellent narrative, the satisfying lateral-thinking challenges, and a beautiful handling of themes like grief and the afterlife make it a must-play. A thoroughly captivating journey that smartly closes old chapters while hinting at a promising future.
Loot Level Chill - Kieran Singh - 7.5 / 10
>Thanks to a generous hint system and another excellent story, Call of the Elder Gods, is a puzzle game that everyone can enjoy.
Manual dos Games - Nathan Manoel - Portuguese - 6 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods presents good ideas and interesting puzzles, but the game falls a bit short and is heavily hindered by tiring gameplay and an art direction that feels uninspired at times, taking away much of the title’s shine and potential.
NoesPaisparaFrikis - Oscar Garcia Mompean - Spanish - 8.5 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods viene a ser todo lo que se le exige a una secuela, que sea más y mejor. Y esto lo consigue sin mayores problemas.
PSX Brasil - Bruno Ribeiro - Portuguese - 84 / 100
>Call of the Elder Gods manages to deliver a consistent experience within its premise: a narrative adventure focused on mystery, atmosphere, and clever puzzles. The character writing, the Lovecraftian setting, and the gradual evolution of the puzzles make the campaign constantly engaging, while the art direction and soundtrack contribute to its identity. There are certain visual technical limitations and some frustrating moments caused by demanding puzzles, but the final result is a confident, mature, and very well-constructed sequel, especially for those who enjoy more contemplative and investigative games.
República DG - Sherman Castelo - Portuguese - 7.6 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a game with interesting ideas and a Lovecraftian atmosphere that works quite well once the narrative finally gains momentum. The setting and sense of discovery are engaging, especially for those who enjoy cosmic horror and stories involving insanity and supernatural mysteries. > >At the same time, the game struggles with extremely limited exploration and puzzles that often stop being challenging and instead become tedious. Some puzzles are genuinely clever, but others feel complicated only because they exaggerate the difficulty. > >Even with these issues, I managed to get involved with the campaign and remained curious to uncover the mysteries of that universe until the very end. I just believe the experience would have worked much better with more consistent puzzles and a narrative that revealed its true potential earlier.
The Games Machine - Daniele Cucchiarelli - Italian - 8 / 10
>The Cthulhu mythos resonates in Call of the Elder Gods, which closely follows the gameplay of its predecessor, Call of the Sea, but offers a more solid structure and an equally intriguing storyline. Some gameplay elements could have been better utilized to give this sequel more personality; nevertheless, fans of the genre and those who enjoyed the controversial first installment of the series are sure to appreciate it.
TheSixthAxis - Steve C - 7 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a very good puzzle adventure game that continues the narrative of the first game and adds some interesting new characters to the mix. At its best it contains some of the most engaging and enjoyable puzzles you'll find, though there are some dips in quality that drag things down a bit. I would recommend the first game over this for newcomers, but if you've already enjoyed that title then you'll get a lot out of this too, just don't expect it to be quite as polished.
Video Chums - Mary Billington - 7.5 / 10
>Call of the Elder Gods is a tough adventure puzzler that follows in the footsteps of the first game while expanding the memorable cast, story, and locations to create another enjoyable mystery that unfolds in unexpected ways. 📓

>Call of the Elder Gods is a worthy successor to Call of the Sea in almost every way. Combining exploration with some stellar puzzles and gameplay the game manages to tell a wonderful story with a Lovecraftian twist.
