This museum is a “hidden gem”

This is my 4th time visiting Paris, and I love this city because every time I’m here, I find a place that is unexpectedly awesome that no one seems to be talking about. On this trip, it was the Musée de Minéralogie de l’Ecole de Mines. When you buy your ticket (€7), they tell you to plan on spending 1-1.5 hours there. I didn’t believe them at first, but this place is bigger than it looks. And so amazing! So many weird and gorgeous rocks!

It’s conveniently located near the Luxembourg Gardens and the Red Wheelbarrow bookshop. I am so glad I noticed it on Google Maps; it was one of the highlights of my trip. If you are also slightly nerdy and like unique places that aren’t crowded, you will probably like it, too. 😊

Has anyone stayed in the haunted room at the Drovers Inn?

When my friend and I were booking our accommodations, we saw there was a “haunted” room available at the Drovers Inn. (That’s how it’s listed on their website!) We booked two separate rooms, and I took the haunted one. I figured if shit got rowdy, I’d just go climb in with her.

Well, she had to cancel due to health issues, and now I’m on my own with a nonrefundable haunted room. Can anyone tell me what I’ve gotten myself into?

Shopping in Saint-Germain-des-Pres

I’m going to be in that neighborhood tomorrow and would love some shopping recommendations that are not hairbrushes, perfume, or ballet flats. (That’s all I see on social media lately. 😂)

- I’m a 44-year-old woman with no kids

- I am not wealthy

- I’d also like to do some Christmas shopping for friends/family

Just looking for fun shops to check out. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy… I’m pretty excited about some sweaters I got on sale at Monoprix the other day. 😊

Places with Elite Air Conditioning

I know there’s a list of splash pads and drinking fountains, but could we start a list of our very specific favorite air-conditioned places around the city?

For example, I always recommend the basement at the Marmottan Monet Museum. Technically I don’t think it’s air-conditioned, but it’s always nice and cool down there. (And you get to see the very first Impressionist painting! Can’t go wrong.)

Also, Le Bon Marche. Most of their stuff is out of my price range, but they always have pop-ups with affordable items. I got a really cute pair of sunglasses there. Great spot to cool down!

Bad Experience at Longchamp on Rue Saint-Honore

I spend a month in France every summer, and this year, the TikTok influencers got me- I REALLY wanted a Longchamp purse with the Eiffel Tower stamp. I don’t typically buy expensive bags, but I thought this would be a special experience and I’d have the memory to go with the purse.

The girl who helped me was so nice. When I picked out my purse, we chatted about how excited I was for the stamp. I asked if it was an extra fee, and she assured me it was complimentary. I paid, and she took my bag off to be stamped and (presumably) went off to help her next client.

A few minutes later, my name was called. The girl in charge of stamps handed me my bag and said she couldn’t stamp it. She turned to leave and I asked why. She said it was the wrong kind and walked away.

Now, I already felt out of place, like they all knew I wasn’t wealthy enough to be hanging out somewhere like that. This felt awful. I wanted to ask more questions. (What kind of purse did I need to buy? Could I see those purses and maybe exchange mine? The whole point of the purchase was that silly stamp!) But I was standing there feeling like an idiot, and all the associates were busy, so I left.

I’m assuming that the girl doing the stamps was just busy and wasn’t trying to be rude, but it was still really disappointing. So I’m posting this as a PSA for anyone who wants that stamp- if it’s important to you, be extra sure that they’ll do it on the bag you want.

I also realize this is such a first world problem to be complaining about. But I don’t think I would have spent that much money on a purse if I couldn’t get the stamp, so I want to spread the word to anyone else who’s been influenced by TikTok!
