Currency symbol
I just spent hours trying to remap the keyboard to serve better symbols in garuda linux. I did it because I have a mission: I am trying to get rid of that totally useless symbol that lives in Finnish keyboards under the "4" button. I am of course talking about the
¤ The pigs arsehole ¤
I don't know anyone who has ever really needed that symbol. For real, it does not have any use in any kind of situation. I know about the "generic currency" - that is BS. I know about some Microsoft software using it with some tables. I know about some ASCII-based games using ¤ as a specific object. I am not talking about demolishing that symbol itself - but I very much challenge the need of such keyboard key to exist.
I am a programmer. There is another symbol right next to this butthole - the dollar sign. Dollar is used very much, especially in many web-related programming languages, be it jQuery or PHP. Why don't we promote the dollar to the SHIFT+4, makes typing it much easier, even single-handed.
Now, what would I put in the dollar's place then? There's one tiny symbol that is used daily, when talking about weather or sharing recipes.. and also geometry. The degree symbol. So, I have configured my keyboard as follows:
key <AE04> { [ 4, dollar, degree, currency ] };
I think Linux and Windows should just follow my lead.
