Fold 8 - noticeable hinge play after just 10 days.
My Fold 7 is 10 months old and still feels like new. Meanwhile, my Fold 8 is only 10 days old and already has noticeable hinge play.
When fully folded, if I hold the phone between my palms and gently rock the two halves against each other, I can clearly feel them moving relative to each other, accompanied by a slight creaking/clicking sound from the hinge.
Doing exactly the same with my Fold 7 and it’s rock solid.
I’ve seen the Fold 8 teardown and noticed that its hinge design is simpler than the one in the Fold 7/Fold 8 Ultra, but I didn’t expect such a noticeable difference after just 10 days of very gentle use.
I’m curious whether other Fold 8 owners have noticed similar hinge play over time, or whether theirs are still completely solid.
Today, I went to the official Samsung store where I purchased the phone, intending to either have it replaced or get a refund.
However, they refused both options because my phone supposedly shows signs of “use and wear.”
You can clearly see the “wear” in the photo.
So apparently, it’s somehow my fault that the paint is already coming off the corners of a $2,000+ phone after just 10 days of gentle use.
We escalated the case to a supervisor and are expecting a response on Monday.
It’s just ridiculous that I have to prove that a $2,000+ device should not behave like this after less than two weeks of normal, careful use.
