Major issues following total toenail avulsion- dystrophy and DNB

I had a minor fungal infection I got at a salon while pregnant and because I was then breastfeeding a doctor said I needed a total avulsion to then apply jublia to the bed directly since I couldn’t use the oral meds. This was a little over a year ago.

I’ve subsequently learned that is NOT true. I’m sure he damaged the nail matrix, at first it grew in thickened, then it detached from the nail bed again—you can see I had to remove that part recently. I’ve subsequently been diagnosed with dystrophy and disappearing nail bed. Infuriating because this was such a minor infection to begin with!! Now I’m seeing another doctor who is trying laser to see if it would help it grow quicker and attach so the bed doesn’t disappear even more.

Today I just noticed that the proximal nail fold which wasn’t attached super well on a normal day is really able to roll back, well it turns out maybe the reason it hasn’t really been able to grow is there is NO NAIL at the bottom, only bed again. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening?? Could the laser have caused this? Is it possible this fragment of a nail barely hanging on is the last nail I ever have and I never grow another nail again?? Would the original total avulsion I have cause that or should I avoid doing laser again? I cannot believe this ongoing nightmare, I am so close to having it permanently removed but maybe I don’t even have to bother and it has stopped growing on its own!! Plenty of other people I know with avulsions had no problems, infuriating that he told me he did 10 of these a week and it was nbd
