getting scammed by a betting company?

I’m looking for advice from people who have experience with online betting platforms and account verification.
I have funds in my account and I’m trying to make a withdrawal. The withdrawal method I originally used did not work, so I contacted support. They told me that I need to complete an identity verification process before I can continue.
They asked me to provide a photo of my ID document. I understand that many financial services require KYC verification, but I’m still cautious about sending personal documents online.
Has anyone here gone through a similar verification process with an online betting service? How did you make sure the request was legitimate before sending your documents?
What are the main things I should check to avoid accidentally giving my information to a scammer?
