NKD Masutani VG1 Nakiri 165 mm

Hey TCK!

Beginning of this week I‘ve received my third knife and finally a Nakiri!

In detail: Masutani VG1 Nakiri 165 mm burned oak Wa handle

The Wa handle option being sold out and me living in Europe made it impossible to buy this knife from a seller. Some months ago I‘ve opened a WTB in the r/TrueChefKnivesBST subreddit and totally forgot about it - then two offers came in!

I‘ve bought the knife now BNIB from u/plantgainz80 - great seller, awesome communication. Thanks again!

My other knives being a 210 mm Anryu Gyuto:

And a 150 mm Mazaki petty:

(+ my sourdough slayer, a Tojiro F-737)

I was pretty excited to finally call a Nakiri my own!

The fit & finish is I guess what you expect for a knife in this price range, but it is even better than expected. The Tsuchime finish is beautiful and the knife came with a super sharp edge of the box.

I was surprised about the weight (little heavier than expected) but the COG is located conveniently about 10 mm in front of the handle.

The last two days we had Korean spring rolls for dinner with a lot of veggie cutting and I was able to get the knife to work - it‘s hella fun! Nakiri is something I‘ve only learned about when I started diving into Japanese knives, while a Gyuto and Petty are more or less traditional knife shapes.

The Nakiri does really live up to its task, and I can imagine a experienced cook is able to work really fast on veg prep with such a knife.

Even my SO has given it a try (has no interest in the other knives) and she was a fan of it as well. I guess the knife not being pointy does make it a little accessable.

Happy first time Nakiri owner here and first deal on TCKBST which also went great.

Thanks for reading and thanks for the great community!
