Past fish only guy starting a (first time live planting!) shrimp only tank, does everything sound/look good? Advice?!
Hey all! So I’ve kept fish in the past for 3-4 years and did incredibly well with them (Mollys, Small pleccos, and snails). I gave up the hobby due to school but decided to get back into it but go nano tank for a small but fun vibe on my desktop table!
I setup the tank about 3 days ago now and plan on letting it cycle 4 or more weeks until parameters are right for the lil shrimpy dudes.
I conditioned the water as usual, added Fluval Bio starter, a small 1mL dose of Flourish by Seachem and planted 1 x Java Moss, 1 x Anubias Nana, and 1 x Watersprite. I boiled cholla wood and added that as well! Today the sprite looks a little brown though near the roots and has like 2 black spots near the joints of 2 stems. The anubias also has a small spot on a leaf or two which almost looks rotted? I included pics of these for y’all.
Is that the melting people mention all the time? Will it bounce back I hope? I went out today and bought a simple Aquaeon LED clip on light to bring the PAR up a lil bit to 15-27 (average/peak) because the stock led just sucks, I knew it did. Just in case light problems are happening or would happen in the future. Didn’t want to go too crazy on the light though as these are apparently low-medium light/PAR plants?
I repotted the sprite into its own little isolated cup either holes and topped it up with gravel and a root tab at the bottom of the cup (root tab made by ThriveCaps).
Is there anything else I should be doing to get this jump started or just stay patient? I know my ammonia levels were kinda high yesterday, as well as nitrates but no nitrites… I feel like I’m missing something with this nano build and just wanna ask you experts for some advice on what I may or may not be doing right or wrong. Bunch of pictures included for y’all! Thanks!
