I got tired of schools policing our hair, so I started a petition.
Hi everyone.
I'm 16 and currently in school. Like many students, I've seen people being scolded, punished, sent out of class, or pressured to cut their hair simply because it didn't match a school's preferred style.
I've never understood why hair length is treated as a disciplinary issue. If a student is studying, behaving respectfully, and following school rules, why should the length of their hair matter?
What made me think about this even more is that Nepal has taken steps to prevent schools from forcing students to cut their hair. If a neighbouring country can recognize that students deserve some degree of personal autonomy over their appearance, I don't see why we can't have the same conversation in India.
I'm not asking everyone to grow long hair. I'm simply asking that students should have a choice and shouldn't be punished or excluded from education because of their hairstyle.
So I started a Change.org petition calling for guidelines against compulsory school haircuts in India.
If you agree, I'd be grateful if you could sign and share it.
