can we just acknowledge the silliness of the notation of "0.999...9" and "0.000...1"?

pretty sure we can all agree "..." means "infinite" and "infinite" means "never ending". so how can there be an end after the "...". just found that funny

has everyone been lying about fist year of university being significantly harder than grade 12

i was looking at previous year final exams for first year eng programs because i was worried about western's whole second-year-application thingamabob and the questions were genuinely just grade 12 questions with a teeny bit extra sprinkled in. since grade 9 everyone's been saying "oh man watch out! first year uni is gonna be a RUDE AWAKENING!!". am i being pranked or is first year genuinely just grade 12 2.0

any flaws in this proof?

0.999... = u
u = 9/10 + 9/100 + 9/1000 + ...
10u = 9 + 9/10 + 9/100 + 9/1000 + ...
10u = 9 + u
10 = (9 + u)/u
10 = 9/u + 1
9 = 9/u
u = 1
therefore 0.999... = 1

yeah bro we're just gonna send out offers whenever the fuck we want with zero to a microscopic bit of communication. we're also probably not gonna tell you you're rejected until the absolute latest. if you want to know when we send out offers you have to check spreadsheets made by students from previous years, which won't matter because we're just not gonna go off of previous patterns anyway. we're also gonna accept people purely on a coin flip because everyone's marks are so inflated that for all we know a kid with a 99 average could be the exact same skill level as someone with a 87 average.

did you know 30 years ago there was one big day of the year where you would get your letters, offer or rejection, from every university? like they would coordinate the mail so they all appeared on the same day? and like, every other country ever does the same things? where did we go wrong??
