For your consideration, I humbly present the first potentially "Best of the Worst"-worthy movie I've ever stumbled upon in the wild.

For your consideration, I humbly present the first potentially "Best of the Worst"-worthy movie I've ever stumbled upon in the wild.

I was randomly clicking through IMDb, and this movie's poster gave immediate Breen-vibes, so I had to check it out. Having only watched the trailer, I think the movie checks a lot of the boxes for what typically constitutes a hallmark BotW contender:

Auteur Writer/Director/Producer/Lead Actor/... 🗹

Additional superfluous IMDb writing credits for "Story", "Characters", and "Original Idea" 🗹

Low/no budget 🗹

Nephew learning Adobe After Effects CS2 circa 2006-level effects 🗹

Audio quality that's so bad, some say you can still hear the dialogue reverberating off the walls to this very day 🗹

Newscaster characters who look as though they were hired via Fiverr 🗹

Actors looking off-camera, either to read their lines being held up out of frame, or just getting distracted by passersby 🗹

Out-of-place musical performance by assumed friend of filmmaker's band 🗹

Features a dead-ringer for Leonardo DiCaprio's dad playing Zeus, King of Olympus, sitting in a conference room, while rocking a $12 faux-fur sweater jacket, Spirit Halloween-quality crew neck shirt (complete with an ironed-on golden Greek meander pattern) worn over a black turtleneck, and LensCrafters BOGO specs 🗹

Generative AI footage of a Trojan War battlefield, showing a spear being swung as a sword, a sword that magically shapeshifts into a shield, and another shield that magically vanishes into thin air when the "hero" of the shot turns to run away from combat 🗹

Seemingly made in total earnest and devoid of self-awareness 🗹

Filmmaker exhibiting possible delusional, egomaniacal narcissism, creating a universe in which he:

  • Plays a literal embodiment of divine perfection 🗹
  • Has all the female characters desperately pine over him or revere him 🗹
  • Feigns humility by having his character turn down sexual advances from mythological Goddesses 🗹
  • Inserts themselves into sex scenes anyway 🗹
  • Knows Kung Fu 🗹

I'm considering a Nolan's Odyssey and Tounas' Achilles Returns double-feature in a couple of months to see what kind of psychic damage that whiplash would deal.

What do you think about it?

>!(While I'm obviously having a bit of fun at their expense, I'm far from against the filmmaker making their art and putting it out there. As long as they're treating their collaborators respectfully, kudos to them for chasing their dream, eh?)!<
