Perfumes sat for a while

So I’ve had a new experience today. Went to grab an almost full bottle of The Noir I haven’t worn all summer and the first couple of sprays were pure alcohol. No scent really, maybe a little floral but nothing like the true scent.

I grabbed an old t shirt and sprayed it 10 or so times to really soak it, thinking maybe the bottle had turned in the 6 months I hadn’t used it. Same thing, fabric was basically saturated in slightly floral smelling vodka. Even after 10 minutes.

Pissed off I threw the bottle in a cupboard, thinking it was screwed when I noticed the smell coming off my arm had changed a bit and was getting stronger.

This ever happened to you guys? Do perfumes that have sat for a while need “waking up” or has my bottle just not fully turned and behaving weird?

William Penhaligon alternative

Hey all,

I’ve been wearing a decant of inimitable William Penhaligon for a week or so and honestly it’s perfect. I love vetiver fragrances and this one ticks all the boxes for me as a work appropriate scent.

Only problem is the ludicrous price and frankly corny nature of Penhaligon as a brand. Can’t stand the packaging.

Any similar fragrances that you guys think I should check out? A classy, light Vetiver focussed fragrance good for work? I came to this via Guerlain Vetiver EDT so I’m already very familiar with that.

Cheers!

Wong kar wai box

Was the Wong Kar Wai box always intended to be a limited edition? I’m on the hunt for it and I can’t find any copies that aren’t at mark up prices.

Anybody know if they’re gonna do a reprint/4k edition?

EDIT- I’m in the UK

Vetiver - Malle or Guerlain

Hey all,

In the market for an old school Vetiver fragrance to wear in professional settings.

I’ve got a discovery pack of Frederic Malle and I’m definitely liking Vetiver Extraordinaire and almost ready to pull the trigger on a 50ml. Issue is I’ve not managed to try the classic Vetiver by Guerlain and by the sounds of it it’ll be perfect (and cheaper).

For those who know both is it worth trying to track down a way to sample the Guerlain? It’s not in any discovery pack here in the UK and I can’t find any decants. Is it similar enough that you guys think I’ll be able to safely blind buy? Or should I just play it safe?

Cheers all!

Prinknash incense smell

Hey all,

So I recently saw a band and to create a kind of spooky monastic vibe on stage they burned a lot of incense. Ever since I seen them I’ve not stopped thinking about the smell. It was amazing. Smelled like old churches when I used to go with my grandmother.

I bought a little incense burner and some prinknash frankincense. I also got their priory monastic blend.

The results haven’t been great. The smell is more like a roasting smell than the pleasant smoky, spicy smell I remember.

I’ve tried everything to make it smell better. Moved it closer to the flame, also further away, added foil to the basket in various amounts, added more resin, less etc.

Is this incense just poor quality or am I missing something? I’ve added a little pic of the burner and the current state of the basket.

Cheers
