On our last trip, an inland tanker came towards us on the Elbe. These vessels always create a nice stern wave that is perfect for surfing—provided they are traveling in the same direction as you. This particular tanker was empty and moving a bit faster than usual, so the wave was somewhat higher and steeper than normal.

After a sultry day, I sought and found some cooling relief out on the water. With no wind blowing and the tide just shy of high water, the Süderelbe lay before the bow, smooth as a mirror.

Today, I went on a lovely trip on the Trave, from Hamberge to Lübeck and back. In total, just over 28 km in four hours.
