Had my blood donation cancelled and I've been told I've got an extended waiting period
I gave blood yesterday, all went fine and hemoglobin levels were spot on. This morning I booked another appointment for November and I've just had a notification telling me it's been cancelled. The email said it could be any number of reasons, including problems with the location. But I've just logged in and it says:
'Extended waiting period -
We need you to wait until 18th February 2027 to donate.
If this is wrong or you would like further information please call 0300 123 23 23.'
That tells me it's something medical.
Could they have picked up something in the screening of yesterday's donation?
I should add that I've rang them and they don't have that info available as they 'just book the appointments' and someone will need to call me, but they said that could take up to a week. Has anyone experienced something similar?
Edit: I think this testing of the blood for low iron after donation needs to be clarified. Everything I'm reading says that iron levels/red blood cell size are definitely not tested after donation. But this is being contracted by personal experience. Is this definitely a thing in the UK that iron levels/red blood cell size are tested for post donation? Any clarification would be very much appreciated.
