How do you make sure players find your story hooks?

How do you make sure that your players find the secondary quest or storyline hooks without shoving them in their face?

For example, let’s say that the wizard at the top of the tower they just defeated to save the village was actually working with the mayor to extort the village or lure adventurers in. I thought a note left on the desk or trunk would suffice but want to make sure that the players would find it. If they are looking around the mages room, do you draw attention to it or make them be thorough so that they may miss it sometimes?

So I've been an on and off again Dokkan player for years, often losing my old account and restarting several times. I like summoning whenever I have stones and haven't spent much time pushing myself into end game content. Most recently, I've got a rank 267 account with Str SSGSS Goku + Vegeta from some anniversary that basically solos everything I'm doing (just dokkan and eza battles). I'm considering starting over with a fully F2P farmable unit restriction and to build some progression milestones to push myself into some areas of the game I never played before over the years.

For example, I had only ever done the first few Battle Road levels, but I also know that many of the more recent farmable units can just blaze through old content where 1 million damage for a f2p unit was considered bonkers. I was thinking of building some farmable teams from times prior to the Bardock/Ginyu to tackle some Battle Roads and then work my way into more recent content as I start clearing more and more. Maybe even look at the release years for stuff and only build the account with things available then

Do you have some recommendations for how I should set some milestones to gate myself either with a farmable units only restriction or just with my regular account?
