I dont want to show my new academic school / MATURE APPLICANT
I graduated from UofT in 2021 and understood that I would qualify as a mature applicant for this admissions cycle. However, I enrolled in Yorkville University’s interior design program in April 2026 because of my interest in design. I’m now planning to withdraw because of changes to OSAP funding, the high tuition costs, and my disappointment with the quality of the program.
I understand that I still need to disclose my attendance, but I’m concerned about how these two or three terms might affect my eligibility to apply as a mature applicant and the reference requirements.
My understanding is that schools such as the University of Ottawa require an academic reference if you have attended university within the past five years. Since my Yorkville classes have been online, I haven’t developed close relationships with my instructors and don’t feel they know me well enough to provide a meaningful reference. I’m also hesitant to contact a UofT professor after so many years, as they may not remember me.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d appreciate advice on how to approach the academic reference requirement and whether my recent enrolment affects my mature applicant status.
