End of Holoship

I just watched Holoship again after years, and the ending still didn't sit right with me. I always thought they should have left out Rimmer's final line, "I cannot believe I just said that".

The line before shows that deep down, Rimmer has some magnificence in his soul that he isn't just a total weasel out for himself and can care for someone else.

Maybe it was just my inner Lister wanting him to be a better person but I also wished they had cut that line out.

What does everyone think? Did Rimmer deserve that little spark of redemption or not?

Digital feudalism

As we approach the end of capitalism and there's speculation about moving into a form of digital feudalism, I was wondering if there are any books exploring this concept.

I suppose Neuromancer did it years ago. Just showing how prophetic Gibson was back then.

Any other suggestions?
