Queens “early phase MMI”

Not sure when this was updated, looks like Queens isn’t doing a classic MMI and panel anymore, now just a “early phase MMI” and later panel.

It seems to serve the same purpose as their MMI, but everyone will have to do it: “The early-phase MMI will be conducted virtually and include an initial external assessment prior to QARS” … yet, it won’t be assessed unless you are chosen by the lottery.

This might be what Ottawa was talking about when they said they would be doing an asynchronous MMI in collaboration with other Ontario schools in replacement of Casper. But Queens seems to still be using Casper.

Edited for clarity and more quotes.

IP ON 12 consecutive months defence or degree conferment?

Hi everyone, posting this on behalf of a friend.

I'm an OOP moving to Ontario next month (July) to return to previous employment based in Ontario, while writing my MSc thesis (finished with experiments already). Plan is to defend thesis mid September 2026 and apply to med during the 2027-2028 cycle (for fall 2028 entry).

As it pertains to the new Ontario IP requirements, would my 12 consecutive months begin once I complete my defence in September or when my degree is conferred in October?

While I am currently considered OOP in Ontario, I have family, have lived in Ontario previously, and have extensive work history in Ontario and want to continue to live and practice in Ontario as a physician. I am not trying to game the IP system, I won't even be applying to the province that I am currently IP for.

Thanks!

Conflicting info about Scotia LOC interest

I have been told the interest doesn’t compound, even with the LOC being used to pay the monthly interest, but a lot of comments here say that’s not true. I saw a tiktok and some Reddit comments that said the interest payment not being added to the principle only started in 2025, might that be the reason for the conflicting info online (age of comments)? When I met with the advisor from Scotia I was told they don’t compound interest but I was so relieved to hear that, I didn’t ask more questions about how the interest is/isn’t separate from the principal the next month.

My Scotia paper work says “We calculate interest on your debt using the "Average Daily Balance" (as further described below) add it to your debt once a month on each statement on the last day of your statement period. However, we do not charge interest on interest.” … is my “debt” the principal?

Yes I know I can ask my advisor… but I’m trying to get a better understanding of the conflict before I ask him so my source isn’t just “Reddit said that’s not true”

Final transcript submission OMSAS

For anyone who went to university outside Ontario who had to submit final transcripts, when/did you see the document tracking go from 1 to 2 “number of documents received”?

My university will only send transcripts my mail (yes, in 2026) and so I can’t upload final transcripts onto SAM like Western allows, so I am looking for how I will know that my final transcripts have been received.

Thank you!
