How do you subtly hint to your employer that you will leave if they don’t meet your request for a raise?

I’m in the position where I know my employer needs me for a certain amount of time on a particular project and my salary review is coming up. If they don’t give me what I’ve asked for, I’ll be looking elsewhere but I don’t explicitly want to threaten them with that off the bat.

How would you subtly make the threat? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Is MRICS really that important?

I’m aware most big companies make you believe it’s the be all an end all.

But I’m wondering if there are any consultant surveyors here who have progressed well throughout their career without chartership.

I’m an experienced contractors QS looking to make the move to consultancy but I’m at the point in my life where extracurricular study alongside having a young family isn’t really desirable.

Any insight would be much appreciated 🙌

Do consultancies value MCIOB?

Essentially I’m an experienced contractors QS looking to make the switch to consultant.

I’m not looking for any judgement but truth be told I’ve just had my first child and looking for a second so do/will not have the brain space or energy for the intense extra curricular study for the MRICS.

Will having something like the MCIOB and extensive contractor experience be enough to not hinder any progression at all consultancy?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Contractor to Consultant Salary Drop?

I’m currently a contractors QS with 7 years’ experience (not chartered) and I’m considering moving into a PQS/consultancy role. I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what kind of salary range I could command for a role in Central London with that type of experience.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Variations as Cost Plus

My firm has an amendment clause written in all of our subcontracts that all variations are to be cost plus and fully substantiated.

Do you think this is actually more commercially beneficial?
