Should I cancel my July 4th trip?

EDIT: to add that if I cancel my trip I’d have to pay first night (partially refundable)

Was planning on doing some sunrise - 10 AM hiking in Moab (arches NP and Canyonlands) and some scenic drives and pull outs..

Should I be concerned about the fire situation and evacuations? Should I try to cancel my trip?

Traveling solo so I’d appreciate other people’s advice.

Weather wise, it’s as hot where I live as it is in Moab, but just concerned about the fire danger and evacuations..

Safe Beginner Friendly solo bike trails near SLC with water views?

hey, random question, i just bought my first road bike and i’m trying to find some safe beginner-friendly places to ride around SLC / within like an hour drive.

i’m not trying to do anything intense yet, just want a nice paved trail where i can ride solo and feel safe. ideally looking for:
• not shared with cars

•	not super secluded

•	beginner-friendly

•	preferably near water / nice views

•	low wildlife sketchiness lol — snakes, bears, etc.

•	safe for a solo woman in her 20s

i also don’t really have serious cycling gear yet besides the bike, so i’m not looking for hardcore routes or anything. just somewhere chill where i can start getting comfortable riding.
does anything like this exist around SLC? any trail recommendations?

First solo trip to Jackson/Grand Teton from Utah — safe scenic itinerary ideas for Memorial Day weekend?

I’m planning my first solo road trip from Utah to the Jackson/Grand Teton area over Memorial Day weekend, and I’d love some advice.

The rough plan right now is:
Friday: drive from Utah and stay the first night in Idaho Falls

Saturday/Sunday: stay two nights most likely in Alpine, then day-drive into Jackson/Grand Teton

Monday: drive back

I’m a solo female traveler in my twenties, so safety is my biggest priority. I’m not planning to do any serious hiking on this trip. The main goals are to reset, journal, enjoy scenic drives, take lots of cool photos for my professional/photo page, and experience the area without overcomplicating the trip.

A few questions:
Is it realistic to explore Grand Teton/Jackson mostly through scenic drives, overlooks, short walks, and easy/safe stops without doing real hikes?

What are the best photo spots for Saturday and Sunday that don’t require long or isolated hikes?

Are there short, safe, popular walks/hikes you’d recommend for someone solo who doesn’t want to be in isolated areas?

Since I’ll likely be staying in Alpine, what’s the best way to structure the days?

Should I focus one day on Jackson/Grand Teton and another day on Alpine/Star Valley/nearby scenic areas?

Any must-stop viewpoints, lakes, pullouts, coffee shops, or places to sit and journal?

Also, any lunch/dinner suggestions that are good for solo travelers? When eating alone, I’d prefer somewhere with a bar seat, counter seating, patio, window view, or a scenic view instead of sitting awkwardly in the middle of a restaurant. Casual places are totally fine.

I’d also appreciate any safety tips for wildlife, weather, driving, parking, or anything specific to Memorial Day weekend.
Thanks so much!

First-time solo (F20s) traveler from SLC to Jackson/Grand Teton on Memorial Day weekend — good idea or bad idea?

SORRY THIS IS LONG BUT PLEASE READ LOL!

Hi everyone! I’m thinking about planning a solo trip to Jackson/Grand Teton over Memorial Day weekend and wanted to get advice from locals or people who know the area well.

For context, I’m a woman in my twenties, and this would be my first solo road trip and first time traveling alone from Salt Lake City. It would also be my first time visiting Wyoming. I’d be renting a car for the weekend, most likely a Toyota Tacoma or something similar, since I want something reliable and comfortable for the drive.

My goal isn’t to do any serious hiking or anything risky. I mostly want to do something new alone, reset a little, take cool photos for my page, journal, write music, bring my guitar, and maybe do some short easy walks or very safe hikes if conditions are good. I probably wouldn’t join paid group tours or do intense hikes. Safety is my main priority.

A few questions:

How realistic is Jackson/Grand Teton for a first-time solo female traveler on Memorial Day weekend?
Would late May weather potentially make this a bad or stressful experience? I know conditions can be unpredictable, and I’m worried about rain, snow, muddy trails, road conditions, or just not being able to enjoy the views.

How safe is the area for a solo woman in her twenties, especially if I’m mostly driving around, taking photos, stopping at viewpoints, coffee shops, and doing short walks?

How concerned should I be about wildlife if I’m not doing major hikes? I know to keep distance, not approach animals, and not do anything stupid, but I’d love realistic advice.

Hotels in Jackson seem really expensive for 2–3 nights, and since I’ll already be paying for a rental car, I’m trying not to spend a crazy amount on lodging. For peace of mind on my first solo trip, I’d rather stay in a known chain hotel than a sketchy motel or random place.

Would it make sense to drive to Idaho Falls on Friday, use that as my base, and then do day trips to Jackson/Grand Teton on Saturday and Sunday, then drive back to SLC on Monday? I know that adds driving, but I honestly enjoy driving. I’m mostly wondering if that plan is practical or if it would become exhausting/stressful.

Also, how are the driving conditions usually that weekend between SLC, Idaho Falls, Jackson, and Grand Teton? Is weather a serious concern for a first solo road trip, or is it usually manageable if I watch the forecast and drive during daylight?

Basically: is this a good first solo trip idea, or am I forcing a trip that might be too expensive, weather-dependent, and stressful for a first solo traveler?

Any advice, safer itinerary ideas, places to stay, photo spots, easy walks, or reality checks would be appreciated. Thank you!

First solo female road trip from SLC for Memorial Day weekend — safe, scenic, creative reset ideas within ~6 hours?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for suggestions for a first-time solo road trip over Memorial Day weekend, likely May 23–25, but I’m willing to take Friday off and make it May 22–25 if the destination is worth it.

I’ll be driving from the Salt Lake City/Sandy area and renting a car. I’m trying to keep the drive around 6 hours max each way, and I don’t drive at night, so safety and road conditions are a big priority.

I’m a solo female traveler (f20s) and this would be my first solo trip. I want something that feels meaningful and memorable, but not isolated or sketchy. I’m hoping for a place where I can reset, reflect, journal, write/record music, and take lots of photos for my Instagram/photography page. I’m also a photographer, so scenery, cool towns, unique architecture, lakes, mountains, or interesting photo spots matter to me.

I’d prefer somewhere with known/reliable hotel options rather than random motels, remote cabins, or isolated lodges. I want to challenge myself and do something that scares me a little, but I still want the trip to be smart and safe.

Things I’m looking for:

  • Safe for a first-time solo female traveler
  • Around 6 hours max from SLC/Sandy
  • Good road conditions / not scary driving if weather is bad
  • Not too isolated
  • Known/reliable hotel options
  • Cool scenery, town, architecture, lakes, mountains, or unique photo spots
  • Places where I can walk around, journal, eat alone comfortably, and take pictures
  • A destination that feels memorable and worth doing, not just “somewhere to go”
  • Preferably not another southern Utah red-rock trip since I’ve already done Zion/Moab-type places

Some ideas I’ve considered are Jackson Hole/Grand Teton with Idaho Falls or Rexburg as a base, Sun Valley/Ketchum, Glenwood Springs, and maybe other Idaho/Wyoming/Colorado/Nevada options. I’m not really interested in Vegas unless there’s a non-party/non-casino version that actually feels worth it.

I’m especially interested in Jackson Hole/Grand Teton, possibly staying in Idaho Falls or Rexburg for more affordable chain hotels and doing Jackson/Teton as a day trip. But I’m concerned about late-May weather, possible rain, cold mornings, and driving conditions. I don’t prefer drivin at night, and since this is my first solo trip, I don’t want the trip to turn into a stressful weather/road-condition situation.

For anyone familiar with Jackson/Grand Teton in late May: is it still a good idea for a first solo female road trip, or would you recommend saving it for warmer/more predictable weather?

What would you suggest for someone in my position? Any specific towns, safe areas to stay, hotel areas, scenic drives, easy short hikes/walks, photo spots, coffee shops, or places you’d avoid for a first solo trip?

So my friends and I (F20s) will be going to zion in a couple of weeks. They’re adventurous and so they wanna do a lot of hikes but I’m really afraid of heights and worried about that. Any recommendations for good hikes that are not super bad in terms of heights, risk of falling, etc? They keep mentioning angels landing and this one freaks me out the most. (I also recently saw news of a hiker falling off?)

Also, the ones I was considering include hikes like Emerald pools (lower level), riverside trail, etc. what should I add to the list so my friends are happy and I’m not shaking the entire hike lol

Also, how’s Zion NP in Mid May?
Thank you!!!!!
