Design of Bulgaria's 2026 2 euro commemorative, dedicated to: "The Bulgarian Alphabet"
A long-awaited announcement for all euro collectors: Bulgaria's very first 2 euro commemorative design has finally been unveiled. It is dedicated to the Bulgarian alphabet, one of the oldest alphabet systems still in use in the world. It was first developed in the 9th/10th centuries AD in Preslav Literary School in Pliska, then the capital of the First Bulgarian Empire.
The design shows a composition of the text 'BULGARIAN ALPHABET' in Bulgarian. The design was made by Svetlin Balezdrov and Stoyan Derchev.
The mintage of this coin will be 1.000.000 - of which all coins are expected to enter circulation.
