How to stop yourself from overworking a piece??

Like at what point do you just stop and say you know what this isn’t going the way I want to, I’m going to stop and try again later.

For me it’s always when I’m like 95% done and I’ve known for a while that it wasn’t going to go my way 😭😭

I’m not 100% happy with this piece but definitely feel better about the second attempt. I’m still getting used to this style and trying to make it feel effortless is haaarrrddd 🫠 let me know which one you like better, and if you can tell which one is overworked. I’d also love any opinions or tips for faces because I struggle man

I Hate Getting Wet (art by me, ehwazess)

I couldn’t wait to make this as soon as I saw the reference picture 😭😭 I just wish I had the space to actually paint it

Value and pose study to feed my pulp art obsession

Little study before I paint the whole image, just thought this pose was so fun and was just going to do the line art but idk what happened 😅

When a master study turns into wanting to give them a whole new world 😫 [me, ehwazess]

Been super obsessed with pulp art lately and trying to teach myself to draw it and thought why not make it furry but now I’m obsessed with them

What should I fix before painting this?

Mocked up the lineart for my next (digital) painting and am a bit iffy on some of the details. Do the eyebrows make her look mad? I also can’t decide on paws or hands again 🥲 anything else I’m missing? 🙃

Rework of a piece after getting some really helpful critique! Drawing by me

Little process vid up on my page 😊 I’m having a lot of fun experimenting with this style. Image had to be scaled down so the colors are a little off :/

Adjustments from previous post 💜 Where should it go from here?

Thank you so much to everyone who commented on my last post about this piece! It was incredibly motivating (to the point where I sacrificed naptime with my baby and redrew it 🫠) here’s a timelapse of the process.

I am much happier with it now but still feel like maybe it’s overworked/ there are aspects that could be pushed in terms of the “furry” aspect.

Almost didn’t post this one…what stands out as “off”?

I have a bad habit of overthinking and overworking a piece and find myself starting over all the time. I almost did with this one but really appreciated everyone’s suggestions and encouragement on my last piece and figured I might as well try to set a habit of just doing it even if I don’t feel like it’s perfect! I’m still testing things out and learning and it’s okay to make mistakes in the process :)

Finally finding a style I like?? Does it matter if no one else does??

I’ve always struggled to render my pieces in a way that feels like “furry art” and I finally gave up and said imma do what I want to do and am sooooo happy with it, this was just a little study so not anything serious but I think I just needed the reminder that I need to do my art for me and not for anyone else???

But like I do want to know if anyone else likes pulp art as much as I do and would want to see more/ what do you think would look cool
