2027 dated inserts.

2027 dated inserts.

Now the line up has been announce, are you thinking about your 2027 plans?

I’m not talking about the themed items but the dated inserts.

Are you sticking to what worked in 2026 (if so, what is it that worked?) or switching it up?

I’m moving from passport to standard size but not sure yet whether to use a dated weekly or blank insert.

Traveler’s Company 2027 theme wishlists

With planner season upon us, the only products I am looking forward to are the 2027 Traveler’s Company releases.

Usually I stick to just the dated monthly insert but this time I’m thinking for updating to a standard size, so might pick up some accessories too.

My dream theme for the upcoming year would be something garden related. Maybe botanic gardens around the world? I’d also take a tea theme. A seaside theme I think could be likely.

What’s on your wishlist?

iOS shortcuts to curb opening apps on autopilot

I have found this shortcut very helpful for myself so am sharing it here.

I was having trouble breaking the habit of navigating to and opening apps without thinking.

This shortcut will close an app it is set up for, then ask for confirmation that you do actually want to open it. If you confirm that you do, it asks for a reason and a timeframe to spend on the app.

There is not to my knowledge a reliable way to have a shortcut exit the app after an extended time frame so it instead uses the native reminders app to set an urgent reminder (which behaves like an alarm) to stop using the app. If you close the app within your time limit you can get back in without going through the process again.

It does also require installing Data Jar, a free app, to store time information. There are instruction within the shortcut on how to set this up.

If you are trying to break some bad habits but deleting the apps all together isn’t working or isn’t viable because you do need to use them for specific tasks, you might find it useful too.

(I pair this shortcut with the free Redd Focus browser plugin. I have the web based versions of the apps partially or fully blocked on my browser so I can’t easily use the websites as a backdoor)

Getting songs into iPod shuffle G2

I have this 2nd generation iPod shuffle that I’m struggling to get songs onto.

I also have an iPod 3rd generation (classic from back in 2003) that I have no issues syncing with my MacBook Pro running Catalina.

The shuffle is a different story. It shows in finder but looks just like a drive. If I show hidden files I can see all the music that is on there (with the obscured file names and hierarchy that iPods have).

I have the music app not iTunes so can’t sync by iTunes.

I do have a couple of older apple laptops kicking around somewhere I could try to dig out (iirc running 10.5 and 10.11 so probably have iTunes?) but I would prefer to be able to use the computer I have on my desk if I can.

Any ideas?

Does the IKEA PS portable lamp without the battery pack installed?

I really like these lamps but I don’t need the portable functionality day to day and do not like having a lot of lithium batteries plugged in around my house that don’t need to be.

I note that the instructions say to disconnect the charger when the battery is charged. For a lamp I’d like to use in my living room daily, this is very high maintenance!

Does the light function plugged into the wall via USB cable without the battery pack installed, or is this lamp simply not suitable for my use case?

Thank you in advance

edit: sorry forgot the word ‘work’ in the title. Can’t edit it Sorry!

Sun fade

This is more an fyi than anything else.

Until now it’s been too hot to sit in the sun and read but today was perfect for it.

I was really shocked to see my text fading away to the point it was irritating to read. I tried the sunlight fading fix (running crosspoint) but didn’t notice a difference.

Outside of the sun it got back to normal after a few refreshes.

I suppose be aware if you plan to use this device in the sun.

Location: SEQ Australia.

For the past couple of years I’ve had this issue. I’ve used iron chelate pellets because they are said to be effective against slaters who seemed to be the most likely culprit (I don’t love using the pellets although they are “organic”, they don’t discriminate and are undoubtedly killing both friends and foes).

The pellets seem effective but I really need to keep on top of applying them. I’m concerned about what impact they have on the soil too. It’s rained for a week however so the pellets dissolve and here we are. So far just the one plant.

If anyone has had the same in their gardens and overcome it, I’d love to hear how.
