OCIA teachers "all religious people go to heaven"

Two of the OCIA leaders were pressed when they made this statement and they insist people of all religions, Buddhism, Muslim, etc go to heaven. From what I can find, the Catholic Church teaches that belief in Christ alone is the ONLY way to salvation.

Please weigh in. After a lifetime in Protestant church and deep faith I'm genuinely befuddled.

Leather wt and pattern suggestions

I badly want to try to make a bag like this, flex frame and include a magnetic closure so I can fold it (maybe 1/4 of the way).

As this would be my 2nd or 3rd bag, please give me any suggestions. I made a pattern and hope to me side sort of rounded.

Would goat or deer be supple enough?

Figured I'd sew the frame in, then magnetic closure, then sides and bottom.

Soft leather sewing distress

My very first project is on right, W&C 4.5-5oz. Was very pleased with my hand stitching as initial attempt and really enjoyed stitching even though it was hard on my hands.

Second project is 2-4oz leather I picked up at Tandy for cheap.

Please be bossy and tell me what to do with this. Stitching is so tricky bc it flops over constantly, driving me nuts. The stitches are all over the place and a mess.

Threading these needles with .55 waxed linen is a battle every single time grrrrr.

I just want to make a simple pouch and am open to any suggestions! Second pic shows cut leather so you can see how pattern is designed. Should I cut the center portion out and use different closure (pls suggest the closure), take out stitches and try again (please tell me how to keep side from flopping to I can cast properly)...

Is this a type of gusset?

Where the side seam and bottom come together, what is this called? Do you have a video link to show me how this is accomplished, please? Two little projects so far but they were sorta of envelop style.

Many thanks!

Floppy leather project ideas?

This was my second ever project, I bought a large piece of leather that I'm guessing is categorized as soft, but even for this little bag (awaiting strap) it's too floppy. It says it's 2-4 oz, I honestly grabbed it bc it was a nice brown and only $45 for a huge piece at a Tandy store.
Any suggestions for what type of bag might be suitable for my daughter or I?

Skiving and gusset clamping

Bought this bag pattern, they even resized it for me, but there's skiving involved on the leather interfacing in two places. This looks like something I really don't want to do. Certainly not for my third project. Can I skip this? What's the point of skiving?

Also, instructional video shows two flat plier clamps holding gusset together during (shoot, was it stitching or glueing?). What I I use instead creative people?

Really wish all patterns had complete supply list and amount of leather required.

Messy worker

Glue and who knows what. I'm a little predisposed to making messes, a bunch of glue marks from zipper installation and discovered I hadn't wiped surface well when I just applied carnauba creme.

My question is, can I "pretreat" my piece of leather to give my work a fighting chance during construction?

Snap look but magnetic? And what's the bottom thingie called

Made a pattern for my second ever leather project 🙄similar to this but don't want to buy 100 solid brass snaps when I need 1-5 depending how setting goes. Is there a magnetic type closure that looks similar?

Also whats the bottom brass knobby thing called? Love this look!

Humbled

Never again will I balk at the price of a hand sewn leather bag. Athough functional, unless I can quickly break it in and loosen it up it's getting repo'd for its brass parts. Learned what not to do- rush, improvise, leave zippers and do a flap, do not use an awl, wait for pricking iron to arrive... I did enjoy the stitching. Learn more about leather weights for small bags. This was .4mm and seemed not flexible enough. Honestly tho I don't know what I'm supposed to want bc the pattern called for 5mm and I can't imagine.

Stitch ripped through

Please tell me there's a way to save my very first project! I pierced with awl too close to edge and it ripped right through. This is an expensive hobby to ruin! gah

Sewing corner darts?

The first 2 pics are mine, the last 2 came with pattern which had no written instructions.

Im going to explain this poorly, but here we go.

Im supposed to sew the bottom darts in corners first, then match up and sew sides and along bottom but i can not see how to navigate this with the corner darts. How am i pressing those edge flat enough to line them up?

1st project stitching options

Been watching the awesome Armitage videos on saddle stitching and am frankly overwhelmed to attempt it. Are there other stitching options that are more beginner friendly without a pony?

Update: pocket is on and I love it! Thank you for all the encouragement and tips. The bit I was missing is two needles on ONE thread. Duh!

I should have done something with the edges of the pocket prior to gluing, live & learn.
