How To Create Recurring Tasks - Monday(Unnecessarily Hard) vs Asana(Easy)

Monday
Auto-Create Subitems When a Recurring Parent Item is Generated

If you set up a recurring parent task on your board, you can automatically generate subitems underneath it every time it recurs.

  1. Set up a recurring parent task: Use monday.com’s built-in automation (via Automate > Create from scratch) with the trigger "Every time period" (daily, weekly, or monthly) to duplicate or create a parent item.
  2. Add a subitem automation: Go to the Automate center and select the recipe: "When an item is created, create subitem".
  3. Customize subitems: Click the action fields to name your subitems, assign owners, or set dynamic due dates tied to the parent creation date.
  4. Result: Whenever the recurring schedule creates a new parent task, monday.com automatically populates the attached subitems beneath it.

Asana

  1. Open Any Task

  2. Set a Due Date: Click on the Due date field (you must set an initial due date before you can make a task repeat).

  3. Select "Set to repeat": At the bottom of the calendar pop-up, click Set to repeat.

  4. Choose Your Frequency: Pick your repeat interval from the menu, such as daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or custom intervals.

  5. Confirm and Save: Select specific days of the week or custom rules if needed, then close the pop-up to save. Asana will automatically generate the next instance of the task after you mark the current one as complete.

Monday, step up your game, you're making this unnecessarily complicated for no reason. A person shouldn't have to setup 2 automations for a single recurring tasks. There are hundreds of these in businesses, where something just needs to be done in a time-bound manner each time period.

I even asked Monday.com AI to complete setting up a recurring task for me, with clear instructions. It thought for about 5 minutes, then stalled out and reported nothing back. It's even too complicated for an AI brain to figure out.

  1. Fire up openai codex (Codex has been better for me, but you can use Claude) and load the Gitnexus GitHub repo into your system (plenty of tutorials online)
  2. Tell CODEX to "use gitnexus to evaluate the codebase" as part of your prompts to improve any code.

It gathers all relevant details from you project directory, files, functions, inputs / outputs, which informs your coding agent way better than grep ever could.
