Post root canal/crown pain when chewing soft food

I had a root canal two months ago, and have since had the permanent crown placed (placed over 2 weeks ago).

Since my root canal I have had pain when chewing. Especially with soft sticky foods. I can eat Doritos and crunchy sourdough bread without pain. But if it’s a soft cake, I’m in pain. Chewing gum, pain. Beans… pain.

Why?!

I have been in contact with the endodontist from the beginning and he keeps saying to give it more time. Now he has said to wait until August. He hasn’t bothered to see me or felt any urgency to see me. 🫠

I have had this exact pain since the root canal. So two months with zero improvement. Only $7,000 poorer. 🫠

Pain after root canal and permanent crown

I had a suspected crack in my back left molar. My nerve was healthy. No real pain unless when chewing something hit the d cusp of that tooth.Endodontist said I had reversible pulpitis, but as I was going overseas in a week he recommended a root canal. He said he found ‘three minor cracks’.

I had a root canal done, but post root canal I still had sensitivity/pain. (Very similar to the pain I would get beforehand, but stronger). My endodontist had placed a metal band around my tooth as I was going overseas in a few days. He said the pain could be from the metal band irritating my gums/PDL.

After 3 weeks overseas I came back home and told both my dentist and my endodontist that I still had pain with that tooth upon pressure. They both suggested to move forward with crown prep. My dentist removed the metal band and prepped my tooth for permanent crown.

I had a temp crown placed and still had the pain/sensitivity. When I placed my fingernail on top of the tooth I could feel a deep pain. Dentist was confused and pretty much just shrugged his shoulders. He said it’s probably still gum irritation and he went ahead and placed the permanent crown on two weeks later. He adjusted my bite and sent me off.

It’s now been two weeks post permanent crown and although I can eat and chew on that tooth, I definitely still have the pain/sensitivity if I touch my tooth at a certain spot. It feels like the top/front (no idea if I’m explaining it correctly) end of the tooth hurts if I touch it with my tongue or nail.

Also, if I chew anything with a bit of resistance, think chewing gum, ravioli/tortellini, a piece of Kit Kat chocolate, I will get the same deep pain/sensitivity. But otherwise I can eat/chew almost anything else and I’ll be fine.

What is most irritating is that this pain is more painful than the original pain I had. Though very similar. It feels like the same nerve pain.

My bite doesn’t feel off… Could my root canal have failed? I went to one of the best endodontists I could find and paid $3000AUD for it. My endo told me to give it until August and go back and see him if it hasn’t passed.

I feel sooooo annoyed because my tooth was ‘healthy’ and gave me far less trouble than before all of this. I feel like I was rushed into a root canal due to my travel, and I’ve been in more pain ever since my root canal. Only I’m $6000 poorer.

And I’m even more terrified to go back to my endo in August and him having to work on my tooth again and ruin my permanent crown.

Pleaaaase does anyone know why my tooth is still hurting to touch, and certain pressure, over a month after root canal, and two weeks post permanent crown. How can just running my tongue on the top of that tooth hurt?!

😭😭😭
