Why is speaking up about cheating being treated as a joke?
For context, graduates from the university have been speaking up about the cheating issue that has been circulating again within their school. They are urging students to stop cheating because, in the long run, sila-sila rin lang ang mahihirapan.
However, one student made a post about the issue, and their friends were laughing in the comments, which comes across as mocking those who are speaking up against cheating.
Bakit kailangan niyo pang mag-post ng ganon, tapos halos lahat ng friends niyo natatawa? What’s so funny about people raising concerns regarding academic dishonesty? Instead of making fun of the issue, shouldn’t we be discussing why it continues to happen?
As a junior, I find this behavior extremely disrespectful. Nakakahiya naman na may mga graduates nang nagsasalita tungkol sa academic integrity, pero ginagawa pa rin itong katatawanan ng ibang students. They are raising a legitimate concern, and laughing about it does not make the issue any less serious.
Academic integrity matters, especially in nursing, where knowledge and competence are essential to patient safety. Cheating compromises the integrity of academic assessments and raises concerns about whether students are developing the skills required for their future profession.
This isn’t about targeting individuals. It’s about recognizing that academic honesty and accountability should be taken seriously, not treated as a laughing matter.
