How likely is it my idea gets stolen before launch?
I’m looking at getting a business started later this year in the children’s resources space, and was surprised to see there really is no direct competitor where I’m launching (Sydney). I have an opportunity to really corner the market here.
I can’t launch yet because it’s going to take me a while to get everything stood up, but mainly because I have to wait for my govt parental leave to finish before I can operate.
So my question is what is the scene like in Australia, is it likely someone with a bunch more capital would swoop in and get the jump on me if word got out? I was hoping to do some more market research and talk to potential customers but don’t want anyone to beat me to the punch while I’m sitting on my hands.
Likewise I was initially planning on starting small in my local community only but for the same reasons mentioned I wonder whether I should be trying to support a larger area before I launch/advertise so I don’t get undercut by someone else? It would mean taking on a larger inventory than initially planned but not outside of budget, just higher risk I suppose.
