First time in Sri Lanka — 24 July to 31 July. Any tips are welcome!
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I will be visiting Sri Lanka for the first time from 24 July to 31 July. We’re a couple, 31M and 29F, arriving at Colombo airport on 24 July around 5:30 AM.
Our rough plan is:
24–27 July: Goyambokka / Tangalle area
We know it’s the south coast during the rainy season, but we actually enjoy rainy, moody beach weather and want a relaxed romantic stay.
27–29 July: Somewhere in the hill country near Ella/Haputale
We’re considering Belihuloya, Ella outskirts, Diyatalawa, or Bandarawela. We prefer somewhere peaceful, romantic, scenic, and not too commercial, but still safe and reasonably connected.
29 July: We plan to take the train from Haputale to Colombo Fort, then stay near Negombo until our flight on 31 July.
We’re not trying to rush around or cover too many tourist attractions. We’ll probably spend a lot of time relaxing at our stay, with maybe 3–4 hours outside per day for beaches, cafés, views, short walks, or light sightseeing.
I’d really appreciate recommendations for:
1.Reliable and reasonably priced taxi/driver contacts
Especially for:
Colombo airport → Goyambokka/Tangalle
Goyambokka/Tangalle → hill country near Ella/Haputale
Nanu Oya/Colombo/Negombo transfers if needed
2.Romantic beaches near Goyambokka/Tangalle
We’re looking for peaceful, beautiful places rather than crowded/commercial beaches.
3.Best area to stay near Ella/Haputale
Between Belihuloya, Ella outskirts, Diyatalawa, Bandarawela, or any other nearby place — where would you recommend for a couple looking for views, cool/rainy weather, safety, and a relaxed atmosphere?
4.Any route changes or practical tips
If this route sounds too tiring, or if there’s a better way to plan it, I’d love to hear from people who know Sri Lanka well.
Thanks in advance! We’re really excited to visit and would love to hear honest advice from locals and experienced travellers.
Edit: Would you change anything in this itinerary?
