Mid-Hiatus Check-in & Moderation Clarification
Hey r/TheRookie boots!
By our best estimation we are roughly 14 weeks from the premiere of Season 9 in the US! (still waiting for a specific premiere date!)
The mod team wanted to take a moment to check-in and offer some clarification about our moderation during this hiatus.
As discussions tend to "peter out" during the off-season we have been more lenient on enforcing a few specific rules in favor of keeping engagement up and allowing others a place to talk about elements and related aspects of The Rookie.
Once Season 9 ramps up we will one again return to more strict adherence of our posted rules.
😎 Please read the following to help understand our current moderation applications.
⛵ Rules that are more lax and up to moderator discretion during this off-season
Rule #3a - Stay on Topic
- Off-topic content that is not directly related to The Rookie or its cast.
- We are currently allowing posts which highlight Rookie actors in other roles
- Low-effort
- We always encourage users to add more details and/or discussion points to help facilitate more meaningful discussion in their posts instead of simply a photo - or one line text. But doing so does not currently warrant immediate removal. It will be left up to the discretion of the moderators.
- Games ARE allowed during the off season - but are NOT allowed during the season airing. So if you have any ideas for games you'd like to run, you have about 14 weeks before we will not be allowing them again until the next hiatus!
📜 Rules that are ALWAYS in effect throughout the year.
Rule #1 - Be Respectful
- Treat other members of the community with respect. Personal attacks, harassment, hate speech, and abusive behavior are not permitted.
- Criticism of the show, characters, cast, writers, or storylines is welcome, provided discussions remain civil and constructive.
- Posts or comments created solely to spread hate or provoke hostility toward the show, its characters, cast, crew, or fans may be removed.
Rule #2 - Spoilers
- Do not include spoilers in post titles.
- Use the correct season flair when creating a post.
- Apply the Spoiler tag to posts about the newer seasons, future episode/season speculation, or major plot points across all seasons (e.g. deaths, departures, major relationship developments, etc).
- Spoilers beyond the flared season must be hidden using Reddit spoiler formatting. How to use spoiler highlight: > ! spoiler text ! < (remove all spaces between special characters and text).
Rule # 3b - Stay on Topic
The following posts will be removed:
- AI-generated content.
- Posts that substantially duplicate recent discussions.
- Spam, excessive self-promotion, or promotional links.
Rule #4 - No Piracy
- Do not request, share, or encourage pirated content, illegal streams, or unauthorized downloads of The Rookie.
Rule #5 - Politics
- No posts or comments discussing political content, including politics in the USA or any other country - These discussions are unrelated to The Rookie and do not belong on this subreddit.
- Conversations about politics within the context of the show itself (e.g., plots, storylines, characters) are acceptable. For example, if you’re specifically referring to the political elements in Season 3, that’s fine.
Rule #6 - Fan Fiction
- No posts or comments about fan fictions including links to external fan fiction sites.
- These are non-canon and cannot be moderated.
🌞 As always - if you have any questions about a post or comment that may have been removed, we encourage you to send a (polite 😉) modmail requesting clarification.
Before the new season airs we will post another announcement with updates and how we plan to help focus discussion during the season airing. (including when the sub will be restricted, ect).
We're glad you're here! Remember to be kind to each other! And have fun! Season 9 will be here before we know it!
💌 Respectfully,
Your r/TheRookie mod team!

RookieRewatch2026 - Week 18
Hey r/TheRookie fam!
As we continue the long hiatus between Seasons 8 and 9 (An expected 34 total weeks without our beloved John Nolan and crew - though no official return date has been announced. 18 weeks down! only 15 more to go! - OVER HALFWAY THROUGH, BOOTS!!!), I’m organizing another RookieRewatch! (If you're interested Here’s an overview of last years Rewatch!)
This year will be more low-key. Each week I’ll post a discussion thread and we can discuss where we’re at in our respective rewatches. Maybe you’re working your way all the way through! Maybe you just rewatched one of your favorite episodes for the hundredth time. Maybe you just want to live vicariously through others and simply comment on their thoughts about the episode(s) they watched. Whatever your reason - I hope you’ll join us! Super chill!
Disclaimer/Spoiler Warning:
Because there is no spoiler tag, if discussion turns to major spoiler points (specifically in season 8) I simply ask you to please be kind to your fellow Redditors and do a spoiler highlight.
That being said - for anyone who is not fully caught up - please be warned there may be spoilers in the comments!
Now that all that’s business is out of the way!
What episode(s) did you rewatch this week? What stood out to you? What was your favorite moment(s)?

Season 8, Episode 1 - Worth the wait?
In my (and Lucy's) opinion - "It was worth the wait"
I rewatched 8x1 this week and.....I'm so thankful Alexi didn't continue to drag it out. (I'm not including the final moments :))
We got a full season of happy, healthy Chenford. (If you haven't already, check out u/Technical-Cellist548's "Chenford Chapters" - so worth the read!
But what abut you? was it worth the wait for you?

Moderator Poll - Final Question - please read post and provide feedback
👋 Greetings from your moderating team! 👋
👀 You may have noticed some small changes to the sub over the last couple weeks. The moderators have been hard at work discussing the best way(s) to moderate discussion about our favorite TV show “The Rookie”!
📝 As part of these discussions - we have been posting a series of polls to better understand how you all interact with this sub.
🎬 The final question in our series of moderator polls has to do with our sub rules and our removal policies. Please select the option you feel best applies.
Based on the rules we currently have in place for our subreddit - please select the best option in the poll.
* I don’t read the rules. I trust your moderation
* I’ve read the rules - your moderation is on point
* I’ve read the rules - I’m confused about why some posts stay and others are removed
* I’ve read the rules - you’re removing too many posts
* I’ve read the rules - they’re too restrictive
* I’ve read the rules - they’re too lenient.
📝 After selecting your response, you are then invited to provide some written feedback about this question or any of the previous questions in our poll series. Have ideas for the future of our sub? Please share them!
💡We know we won’t be able to make everyone happy. The goal is to hear from the users who take part in our sub and get a temperature check to see if there’s anything different we may be able to do. We're looking for honest feedback, including criticism, so that we can make the subreddit as welcoming and enjoyable as possible.
❤️ Thank you for being a part of r/TheRookie, and we look forward to continuing to facilitate good discussions about Nolan and the gang.
