In 27 BCE, Octavian defeated Mark Antony and Cleopatra decisively, ending the "agony" of the Republic. Through a series of reforms, conquests and executions, the Republic turned into an Empire overnight, changing the course of history along with it.

Now, lets say you were born in... let's say 50 BCE. By 30 BCE, You are 20 years old, and have a position of high power within the Roman Senate. Would you rather live under the Roman Empire under Octavian, where any power you may have had is practically stripped, albeit you have influence over the Emperor's actions, and if you dont like him, get the praetorian guard to just kill him, OR live under a Republic in state of emergency, where you have more power, but the state is falling apart with pretenders, corruption, revolts, and more. You're at a far higher risk in this, but you retain more power.
