My headcanon that Peregrine is autistic

Might be messy since I started like yesterday and finished tonight

• Starting with Origins: In regards to August. I don't really know what Playwright is saying, but from the wiki and a reply to a comment and the scrapes of my own understanding, Peregrine is described as direct, and always needing to know the reason behind everything. You'll see this in a lot of the videos I'm going to go through.

• To make another point with this video, when Kingsley tells Peregrine to end Clémente, Peregrine first asks, “Do I give them the head start?”

'The' head start implies that they usually start with a chase or something, and so I feel like they asked in order to know how to play their role.

• In Origins: In regards to Kingsley, when they tell Ser Bartholomew, “for the king has many things to do!” right after that, as in the very next thing uttered, was Peregrine saying, “Your majesty has many things to tend to.”

Maybe this could just be them hyping Kingsley up or correcting them or something, but to me, this feels like immediate echolalia (repeating a word/phrase right after you hear it). Also Perry sounds like they're smiling. Idk how to explain it, but yeah.

• Lark-hearsals: Harpy Hare; This one sticks out to me the most, as there are quite a few moments

• In the beginning, Playwright comes in and asks, “Aren't you little birds supposed to be rehearsing?” Kingsley, Clémente, and Cole say, “Sorry, Mx. Playwright.” in unison, but Peregrine joins in a bit late and only says, “Sorry.”

First, I 100% interpret this as Peregrine not seeing the hidden request/unsaid criticism. Also, the fact that they don't add ‘Mx. Playwright’, while it could be them not trusting adults that much at that point in time, it also reads to me as them not knowing/understanding it's a bit rude not to address someone by their name when apologizing. I also think Peregrine only felt apologetic and said sorry because everyone else started to.

• At the end when Playwright abruptly leaves, as soon as the bells stop jingling Peregrine states, “Aaand they're gone.”

Them saying things out loud as they happen could be a gateway to transition from a sudden change.

• Right after Peregrine says that, Cole expresses worry, “Oh nooo, they must have hated it.” Clémente tries to comfort them, Kingsley sort of mocks Clemmie, but Peregrine doesn't say anything. This could mean Peregrine doesn't really know how to comfort others; which makes sense considering they had a pretty rough childhood.

(This one is just a headcanon) Since we can't actually see the lark in the video, I like to imagine that if Perry IS also comforting Cole, it's in a non-verbal way, like patting their back or ruffling their hair or smth.

• In Lark-hearsals: Neath the grove is a heart (this one sticks out to me the second-most), when Kingsley and Clémente are playing and giggling, Peregrine stops mid-verse and says, “C-can we please take this seriously?” When Kingsley says, “Nevermind.” Peregrine immediately starts singing again. They then start singing the chorus, but Peregrine and Cole sing one chorus, while Clémente and Kingsley sing another. When they're done, there's this sort of pause. We don't exactly know what facial expressions they're making, but it's safe to assume that Peregrine and/or Cole (most likely the former) gave Clémente and Kingsley a look, because Clémente defensively says, “What? It's still the same story!”

The first part, for one, shows that Peregrine is very straightforward. Other than a little “please”, they do not sugarcoat their request, and tell Clem and King what they want them to do. It also shows how Peregrine somewhat lacks social cues/skills, as they interrupt Clémente and Kingsley's bonding moment in favor of the task at hand.

Peregrine probably didn't and couldn't say anything when Clémente and Kingsley started singing a different chorus because they were already deep into the song and everyone was singing. Peregrine could interrupt at the start because they were just starting and only they were singing. After they sing the choruses, Clémente defends themselves after an awkward silence.

Peregrine probably gave Clém and King a look because A, Clém and King went off-script, presumably spontaneously since Clém defends themselves even when no one says anything, arguing it was ‘still the same story’. And B, autistic people often dislike when things don't pan out the way they expected. Even if it was still fundamentally the same outcome, autistic people tend to focus a lot more on the details rather than ‘The bigger picture’.

• When they aren't singing or feeling intense emotion, their voice is generally somewhat flat, especially compared to the rest of the lark (you can especially hear this in that one tiktok where Keath compares their voices, from 2025-12-08).

• In the discord emojis, Peregrine's expressions have the least range, as one of them is just blank, and the other two are very similar.

• In the ‘How the Lark wraps your gifts’ slideshow, Peregrine wraps them as it is (the ‘I hope it's a ps5’ wrapping) and seems genuinely shocked when the receiver ‘guesses’.

• Peregrine doesn't really initiate conversation as much as the other larks. In videos where the all of them have lines, Peregrine usually speaks the least out of the four (Neath the grove being an exception, of course). In the Lark-hearsals: Hartebeest and Harpy Hare, they have the least amount of lines; in the And the Hound Lark-hearsal and Kingsley's ‘In regards to’ origin, Perry has the same amount as Cole and Clémente. Even in their own ‘In regards to’ origin, Kingsley and Clémente have a lot more lines than them. The times they DO speak, it's usually because: they ‘need’ to (e.g. they are spoken to, they tell someone to do something, etc.) or stating the obvious/repeating what has already been said.

• I'm pretty sure their lore says something about growing up around adults mostly, and there weren't a lot of kids, so this could also contribute to their lack of social skills.

Holy shit this took so much longer than i expected

Thanks for listening to my yappin
