I wanted to introduce you to the photo booth software I have been developing over the last six months.
Hey everyone,
I'm super nervous right now and I'm not sure if Im ready for this, but here we go... xD
Over the last six months I’ve been working on my own photobooth software called Boothy.
The idea behind it is a bit different from the usual photobooth setup. Instead of just taking a few pictures during an event, Boothy adds a playful layer on top: guests can complete photo challenges, collect points and compete a little bit for fame and glory.
There’s nothing to win, no prizes, no serious competition. It’s just meant to make the booth feel more alive. From the events where I tested it so far, this worked surprisingly well. People interacted more, came back more often and had a lot more fun with the booth.
After testing it mostly with people around me, I now feel like the software is ready enough to show it to people outside my own bubble. That’s why I’m posting here.
I’d really like to get honest feedback from people who actually know the photobooth world.
Boothy currently has:
- a free plan with limited features
- a trial mode using the license code “Trial”
- daily plans
- monthly and yearly subscriptions
- a one-time payment option, including future updates
The trial mode lets you test all features for up to 10 images. You can reset it and test again, so it’s mainly there to let people play around with the full version before deciding anything.
I’ll be honest: pricing, marketing and sales are not really my comfort zone. I come from software development, not from business development. So if something feels weird, too cheap, too expensive, unclear or badly explained, I’d actually like to hear that.
My goal is not to claim that Boothy is already on the same level as DSLRBooth or LumaBooth. It probably isn't since thry have way more experience in this field then I have. I found my software a little bit easier to use at least and I think Im better in before and after event stuff.
I developed the Boothy Cloud to solve a major pain point. It allows you to configure your photo booth settings completely on the web before an event. Instead of hunching over a touchscreen and struggling to set everything up at the venue, you can now relax on your couch and handle the entire configuration comfortably. Later, you can synchronize those settings to the photo booth software with a single click.
Once the event is over, you can activate the Boothy Cloud to sync images directly to online storage, either via the location's internet or once you get back home. The images can be sent to:
Google Drive
Dropbox
My own Azure-hosted storage
Everything is managed with separate tenants to keep data clean and secure, and we are fully GDPR (DSGVO) compliant. From the Boothy Cloud, you can send direct links to your clients so they can access an online gallery and download their photos immediately.
I am particularly proud of this feature. It took a long time to get everything working perfectly, but the final workflow is fantastic. I apologize if I am celebrating my own work a bit too much, but I am truly proud of how this turned out.
A small web demo is available on the website, so you can get a first impression of the look and feel. It doesn't represent all the functions by any means, but I just wanted to have a small, fun feature on my website to show what it's all about.
It also provides a little insight into the admin panel and how everything is configurable. Of course, nothing actually works there (meaning you can't click on anything). The better test is obviously installing it directly on a device. It can run on Windows, so testing should be fairly easy.
Hardware-wise:
- Canon cameras are supported
- webcams are supported
- Nikon support is prepared, but not properly tested yet
I simply don’t know anyone personally who uses a Nikon camera in a photobooth setup. So if someone here has one and feels like testing it, that would help me a lot.
No pressure at all. If this isn’t interesting for you, feel free to ignore the post. But if you have a few minutes to check it out, I’d really appreciate honest feedback.
