Barrie Line Modified Service, August 17th - August 20th 2026

The Barrie line will be running modified service for the period of Monday August 17th through August 20th 2026.

I've attached unofficial schedules based upon GTFS data.

For August 17th only, all stations north of Maple GO will have service replaced with buses. Trains will run between Maple GO and Union Station serving all stops in between. Customers taking rail replacement buses from stations north of Maple will be shuttled down to Rutherford GO via bus to connect with trains. Some evening trips will run from Highway 407 Bus Terminal instead of Maple. Note that some trips for the regular branch of the 68 may start earlier or later in the day to improve connections to buses further south.

For August 18th to the 20th, all stations will have rail service, but some trains will terminate at Maple, while other trains may be outright cancelled (looks like evening trains). Buses will bridge connections for the short turned/Maple trains while replacement buses will run for the cancelled trains from Highway 407 Bus Terminal.

For Friday August 21st as well as the following week (on weekdays) train departure/arrival times are adjusted a bit, but nothing to the extent of this week.

As usual, refer to GO Transit's website for up to date schedules & times. The attached schedules are unofficial, not from GO Transit, etc etc. I have no affiliation with GO Transit or Metrolinx. To confirm your trip or check for last minute schedule changes, please use the GO Transit Trip Planner.

Below is what GO Transit has written on their website about August 17th:

*All train departure and/or arrival times have been adjusted.

Barrie Line Closure & Kitchener Modified Service This Weekend

This coming weekend we'll see service suspension on the Barrie GO line and modified service on the Kitchener Line. UP Express trains are also being replaced with buses, connecting Pearson directly with Union via the route 35 GO bus. Stops in between on the UP Express will not be served.

The Kitchener line will be running train service but only from Mount Pleasant to Mount Dennis GO, with connections to Line 5 at the aforementioned latter station. Service will be hourly. For the Barrie line, buses will again serve Barrie GO stations outside the City of Toronto using a schedule that has been slightly modified since the last suspension.

Connections to Stratford for train customers will be provided by the 30T at Bramalea GO. This bus will start at Highway 407 Bus Terminal (09:10) and provide connections to Bramalea GO (09:30) and Kitchener GO only before ending in Stratford. Arrival & departure times at Stratford will be close to the train service from previous weekends.

Additionally, the 31W will be providing service to replace the weekend Kitchener-Union GO trains. This route will serve all stops on the Kitchener line between Kitchener GO & Bramalea GO, terminating at Highway 407 Bus Terminal. It's a long trip, pack a pillow if you're gonna ride this one.

There will likely be staff around to direct you at major transfer points such as Mount Dennis, Bramalea and Highway 407 Bus Terminal. Based upon what I've seen in the past, Barrie customers may also see staff at Maple/Rutherford, Aurora, Barrie South & Allandale Waterfront GO stations in case you have questions.

Usual disclaimer applies -- these are not official schedules, there's no affiliation with GO Transit, they're subject to last minute changes, etc etc. If you want official up to date schedules, use the GO Trip Planner on GO Transit's website.

Frequently Asked Questions with Unofficial Answers

Q: As a Torontonian, how can I access the Kitchener line?
A: Take the Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown to Mount Dennis and connect with GO Trains. Please do not wait on the UP Express platform - those trains will not be running.

Q: How do PRESTO fares work in this arrangement?
A: For non-Stratford customers (including Barrie line customers), you will have to tap on and tap off on buses and train stations like you'd normally do. For Stratford users, use an e-ticket and show it to a driver or fare inspector when asked. Remember, day passes are only $10!

Q: I heard Barrie will also have modified service during the week.
A: This is correct -- I may post a separate schedule sometime this weekend for Monday's modified service.

Got more questions? I'm sure the experts in this subreddit will have some answers.

Lakeshore East & Stouffville Full Line Closures This Weekend

This weekend will be the last round of GO train line closures until mid-July with buses replacing service on the Lakeshore East and Stouffville Lines. Please note these buses will only be serving stations outside of the City of Toronto (except for Union Station).

There will be no 15 minute evening service on Lakeshore West on the weekend. Service beyond Oakville to Hamilton (West Harbour) will be reduced to every hour.

I've attached unofficial schedules for the replacement buses. Same disclaimer as last time: these schedules did not come from GO Transit and only came from GTFS data and are subject to last minute changes & corrections.  They're not meant to be used in any official capacity for trip planning. Use the GO Trip Planner for accurate & up to date schedules.

The Lakeshore East replacement bus map from GO Transit's website can be found here and the Stouffville map here.

Unofficial answers to random questions:

Q: How do Presto fares work?
A: Just tap on and tap off on the GO buses only. When transferring between lines you'll still have to tap off your bus.

Q: When is the next scheduled Lakeshore East Line/Stouffville Line closure?
A: September 26 & 27th

Lakeshore West & Barrie Line Closures This Weekend

EDIT: Revised/corrected schedules here: https://imgur.com/a/40Fl91d
- 18V does not serve Hamilton GO but instead West Harbour
- Despite all the data, staff indicated that some 56K trips are suspended
- The first half of the Northbound section had the stops reversed.

This coming weekend we'll see another service suspension with the Lakeshore West & Barrie lines. However, GO is adding half hour service from Union to Exhibition & Mimico. Barrie and the west end remains the same as last weekend.

I've attached unofficial schedules for this weekend's replacement bus service compiled from GTFS data. These are not from GO Transit and are subject to last minute changes and corrections. They're not meant to be used in any official capacity for trip planning. Use the GO Trip Planner for accurate & up to date schedules.

Frequently Asked Questions with Unofficial Answers

Q: Why is GO sending buses to Bramalea/407 Station instead of Union?
A: Traffic has been an issue at Union Station for existing buses that serve the station (ask any rider of the 16 Hamilton Bus). To avoid any issues with events and congestion around the Gardiner Expressway, GO is avoiding funneling buses into that small stretch. Additionally this Sunday the Gardiner Expressway and DVP are closed which would result in additional delays.

Q: How does the PRESTO fares work in this arrangement?
A:
Barrie:

There is a slight discount as your PRESTO fare will be calculated as if you started at Downsview GO (which is in the same zone).

Lakeshore West:

Staff will direct you to not use the PRESTO devices in the replacement buses and at Bramalea. Instead you'll be expected tap on a PRESTO device at Union and then tap off on your final station's PRESTO device (not in the replacement bus). This will correctly calculate your fare since you'll be starting at Zone 02 (Union) and ending at your final stop (Clarkson, Oakville, Burlington, Aldershot & West Harbour).

Early morning and late evening buses going to/from the Union Bus Terminal should be treated like a normal GO bus trip (tap on and tap off).

Q: When is the next scheduled Lakeshore West closure?
A: October 17/18th will see service suspended between Oakville & Aldershot. Buses will use the QEW (route 18), not the 407 via Bramalea. October 24th/25th will see service suspended to Aldershot. Replacement bus plan for 24th & 25th is TBA. Earlier closures are possible due to work being done on this corridor.

Q: When is the next Barrie Line closure scheduled?
A: On July 25 & 26th there will be no service on the entire Barrie Line, likely repeating this weekend's bus plan using Highway 407 Station.

Q: What is the next line closure after this weekend?
A: Lakeshore East & Stouffville Lines on June 6th & 7th. Next GO train service suspension will be six weeks later.

Q: Where does GO publish these schedules?
A: Some staff at the transfer stations (Bramalea, 407 Station) do have print outs for their own use in a similar format. However, the attached schedules are unofficial using GTFS data from the Metrolinx Open Data GTFS feed. They are subject to errors & corrections and are here more to show what their plan is instead of any official trip planning. When in doubt, use the GO Transit trip planner.
