Overworking certain colors…

I’ve been tattooing professionally for three years now and pretty much only worked with black in the past. Clients often ask for small color accents but I’ve found it super hard to work with certain colors. I’ve overworked colors like dark red (ended up looking purple like the color of red wine more than once), flesh tones and light blue and can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I have no issue with colors like bright red, blue or green - those have always healed nice and even without scarring or fading.

Do you guys have any tips on how to tattoo those colors without overworking? I use mostly RS needles for pops of color.
