What's the most realistic reason to use mechs in combat that you've seen?
As the title says: what's the most realistic (in terms of military effectiveness, logistics, or anything really) reason to use mechs in combat that you've seen used?
Reason I'm asking is that I've failed to find anything that would justify the existence of mechs other than:
A) They're cool and handwaved away or
B) Humanity has regressed to a feudal stage and needs war mounts for its knights (read: it's politics and handwaved away.)
Neither of these actually solve the problem that mechs are large, expensive, valuable, and very, very vulnerable.
Have you seen/read/played something that gives a good reason for why armies use mechs?
