Rats and Humanity

So I was farming the rats in the depths and I started wondering, why do they drop it? The Pisaca I am assuming carry it because it is the last vestiges of their fading humanity. But why the rats?

Is it perhaps from eating people? That is my only good guess.

Indulgence for an author?

So I have been trying to do plenary indulgences when I can make it to daily mass lately. I mostly offer them to the poor souls in Purgatory but I have been having the thought lately to apply them to specific people mostly those who have died in my personal life. What about someone well known though, who despite that may not receive them?

To be specific one of my favorite authors is Oscar Wilde. Now he lived a debauched life and was and admitted hedonist, yet he had a complicated relationship with and draw to Catholicism. It is even said he had a deathbed conversion. If true I imagine he possibly has a lot to go through in Purgatory, and I have been getting a feeling to do an indulgence for him. Would this be appropriate? It makes me sad to think that most of his fans disregard this aspect of him, and glorify his sin and turn him into a modernist icon. I would like to honor his possible conversion, and afford him some graces if possible. Thanks for your input on this subject.

Have you ever had a mass said, or done an indulgence for someone well known?

I have been noticing many more references to Catholicism and medieval Christianity in my last playthrough and I found this one interesting. I already found Jerren's colorful outfit to be very reminiscent of the Swiss Guard who are the Pope's personal protection army. Well I learned today that they historically carried a Flamberge as well! Another interesting one is the Marais Executioner's Sword, which itself has an inscription, is I believe to be based on a 17th century German executioner's sword with the inscription:

“When I raise this sword, so I wish that this poor sinner will receive eternal life.”

I always find it fascinating that after 1000 hours I still pick up on new things in this game. Good day, fellow tarnished!

Edit: Maybe he used to guard turtle pope? And hunt witches for him? :D
