Our cat Habi (1.5yo, neutered male) had a urethral obstruction on 9/4, which was unblocked at an ER vet with a catheter, and we were able to take him home the same night. We were told he has FLUTD/idiopathic cystitis, no stones found, likely a crystal/mucus plug. Sent home on:
Hill’s c/d Feline prescription food + meds:
Onsior (NSAID) 6mg, once daily
Gabapentin 50mg, every 8-12h for 30 days (we stopped giving him this with vets approval as he seemed too sedate)
Lorazepam 0.25mg, every 12h for 30 days
Since coming home he’s only eaten twice (night of surgery, next evening) and vomited both times an hour or two later, plus vomited after getting pills. Drinking has been dropping too, down to 1-2x/day.
Today (day 2 post-op) he drank well once in the morning, then refused all food and water starting around 8am. Vet had told us to bring him in for an anti-nausea injection if that happened, so we did, and he got a Cerenia shot around 3pm. Four hours later he’s still refusing everything.
He seems to be improving on all other concerns - he’s calmed down a lot (I’m sure the meds are helping, but he was still very antsy day 1), is peeing/doesn’t seem to be reblocked, and doesn’t seem to be acting like he is in pain/hiding like he was before the blockage was removed.
Not sure my cats like it shoved in their face but they’ll survive. This lens is great!
