Luminous Immersion vs Overwhelming Power
I know these two speakers have likely been discussed here before, but I wanted to share my impressions from a different perspective.
I own both the JBL Charge 6 and the Ultimate Ears EVERBOOM, and to me, they aren't interchangeable.
The Charge 6 continues to impress me every time I listen to it. For such a compact speaker, the power and depth of its bass are remarkable. Even outdoors, I find its low-end presence more substantial than that of many similarly sized speakers. It’s energetic and punchy, and it always makes me want to play tracks by Tujamo and crank up the volume.
Its downsides? Compression at high volumes, the lack of a second tweeter for true stereo reproduction, and a DSP that becomes noticeable on certain tracks, potentially breaking the immersion slightly.
The EVERBOOM, on the other hand, gave me a moment I’ll never forget. One evening, while walking outside in near-total silence, I played "Monsters" by Ruelle. It felt as though the sound was floating around me. I wasn't just listening to the music; I was enveloped by it. It was an almost magical sensation.
However, when pushed for high output, it hits its limits sooner. Compression becomes more apparent, the highs can seem a bit less detailed, and I sometimes notice a few DSP artifacts.
Ultimately, I don't view them as competitors.
To me, the Charge 6 represents almost excessive power packed into a compact form factor.
The EVERBOOM, meanwhile, offers a level of sonic immersion I had never experienced before with a portable speaker.
Which sound signature would you choose?
