Captured during a strong G4 geomagnetic storm in a unusual spot in Iceland

One of the most intense auroras I’ve ever seen in Iceland.
Finally edited a photo from La Palma… and wow. Coming from Italy with its heavy light pollution, capturing clean RGB here felt almost too easy 😅 10 seconds for what usually takes us 10 minutes back home.
On the island I focused more on Ha and OIII, chasing those deep reds and the faint greens. Beyond the incredible sky itself, La Palma is pure magic: standing on the rim of a volcano, listening to the soft mechanical sounds of the telescopes turning in the night… one of the things I’ll remember most. The first night I didn’t even take a single shot — I just stood there and stared.

The sky was perfectly clear when I arrived, but as soon as we set up our equipment, the fog began to roll in.
We spent hours photographing here and there, swallowed by the mist andsurrounded by horses we could barelysee only their presence and the sound of their bells gave them away.
Finally, after midnight, the fog began to change direction. Watching it slowly move through the valleys was a spectacle in itself, revealing and hiding the mountains beneath the stars.

Usually, I would have chased perfection.
This time, I was simply chasing the moment.
We started the hike in the rain, unsure until the very last moment whether the sky would clear or not. When we reached Locatelli, while the others decided to wait there, I chose to climb up to the cave. I had missed this shot the year before, and I didn't want to miss it again.
Luckily, the cave was almost completely empty perhaps because of the bad weather.
While I was setting up for the foreground shot inside the cave, I suddenly noticed that the sky had completely cleared. I could have started shooting H-alpha, stacking multiple frames, and chasing the technically perfect result... but I didn't.
I took a single, simple, old-school exposure.
I had no idea how long that window in the clouds woul last, and I didn't want to risk missing the moment.
I also decided not to add the H-alpha data I had captured previously. I wanted to remember this moment exactly as it was: simple, unexpected, and...
WoW.
For a few precious minutes, the sky opened up right above the Three Peaks of Lavaredo.

Perseids meteor shower over Campo Imperatore, Abruzzo, Italy.
This image captures the Milky Way arching high above a rocky canyon on the Campo Imperatore plateau in the Gran Sasso massif, at an elevation of approximately 1800–2000 meters. The galactic plane shows strong emission nebulosity, particularly in the red Hα regions, which were enhanced through dedicated narrowband data.
The RGB base was acquired with a Canon EOS R and a full-spectrum (astromodified) Canon EOS 6D. Three frames were stacked, each exposed for 120 seconds at ISO 800 and f/2. Separate short exposures of 10 seconds at ISO 3200 and f/2 were used to record the Perseid meteors without excessive trailing of the stars. An additional Hydrogen-alpha layer consisting of 7 frames (120 seconds each at ISO 3200, f/2.8) was integrated to strengthen the emission nebulae along the galactic plane.
The foreground consists of the characteristic high-altitude terrain of Campo Imperatore, with exposed rock and residual sediments fields typical of the late summer season in this location.

Night Bloom at Castelluccio
This is where I first saw the Milky Way, years ago. A place that has always felt magical to me. Every summer, the plain comes alive with wildflowers, painting the landscape with every color imaginable.
For this image, I made a conscious decision not to over-stretch the data or push the H-alpha too far. Not because I couldn't, I spent the last year learning those techniques, through countless sleepless nights, mistakes, frustration, and perseverance.
But when I sat down to edit this photo, I realized that technical perfection wasn't what I wanted to remember. I wanted to leave space for what made me fall in love with astrophotography in the first place: nature, the quiet beauty of the night, and the feeling I had every time I stood beneath this sky.
Somewhere along the way, I realized I had started chasing perfection more than emotion. This image is my reminder to let go of that. To give less space to my ego and more space to the wonder that first inspired me to pick up a camera.

The Edge
This was my winter goal: to capture the Gum nebula over the Tuscan coast.
For months the weather refused to cooperate.
Countless trips ended in nothing.
Then one night, after a long descent through the woods, driven only by stubbornness and a bit of recklessness, I finally reached this beach.
I rarely edit my photos right away. Most of the time I leave them sleeping.
When the feeling returns, I choose one memory and bring it back to life.
This is one of those nights.

Dolomiti di Sesto under the stars

Born from ancient seas, now crowned by galaxies Planned this Milky Way shot the day before... but a massive storm with lightning and heavy clouds destroyed every plan. Couldn't even get close.
The next day the sky was almost perfectly clear. The only real enemy was the heat. On the way up I didn't even feel the weight of the backpack... but the morning after? Different story
Quick stop at Rifugio Locatelli, then I climbed the mountain right behind it. I would have loved to explore the caves area below, but it was packed with people and too many lights.
That night the mountain was buzzing photographers, hikers, climbers on the Tre Cime, and helicopters flying back and forth (one rescue chopper parked down below
But up there... I had the stars all to myself. Pure magic.

I was looking for a Tajinaste, one of the iconic symbols of the Canary Islands, and I was lucky enough to find it beneath the famous Mirador de Los Andenes. In front of me, a volcanic landscape rises above a sea of clouds that gently blankets the villages below, while one of the most breathtaking night skies in the Canary Islands unfolds overhead.
