[DISCUSSION] Masta Ace - The Falling Season (10 Years Later)

The Brooklyn, New York Juice Crew rapper released his seventh solo and tenth overall studio album on May 13th, 2016, via M3 Macmil Music and HHV.de.

The album was fully produced by Los Angeles producer KIC Beats. Excluding Son of Yvonne (2012), where Ace rapped over decade old Special Herbs beats by MF DOOM, it is the first real album that Ace recorded working exclusively with one producer. In an interview with therealhip-hop.com, Ace said that choice was made

> purposely because I was looking for a producer or producers that could put together some music that was sample free or pretty close to it. When I heard his sample free music it still felt like it was samples. (...) It was made very clear early on that we couldn’t bring any music that had samples in it because it was going to create an issue because of the Sony name. When people see that Sony name and they know that you used their music they’re gonna come after you with guns blazing.

As with Masta Ace's previous albums, The Falling Season is a concept album and tells a story of Masta Ace's high school years. In the same interview with therealhip-hop.com, Ace called it

> the most autobiographical of all of them. The two previous albums, Disposable Arts and A Long Hot Summer were fiction based but had autobiographical elements in it. This album is kind of the reverse. It’s autobiographically based but had elements of fiction mixed in to make it more fun. So yeah, definitely the most out of all of them.

  1. Summer's End (Skit)
  2. 3000 Avenue X (Ft. Your Old Droog)
  3. Welcome To The Bay (Skit) (Ft. Fats Belvedere)
